could the plate become active if a player is holding a specific item in his/her inventory?
for example: if you wanted a player to not run off with a lever in an adventure map (and cheat), he would be unable to do so because the NQ pressure plate knew that that player had a lever and prevented him from leaving.
now lets say that that they have random stuff in them.
For each item matched, (dropped on the pressure plate) it emits a redstone signal of 3. So if you have all the (1 each) then, 3x5= a redstone signal of 15.
now, lets make things a bit different.
3
3 sponge MUST be dropped placed for any kind of signal. So, if you drop 3 sponge on the pressure plate, you will have a signal of 1x3=3 (1 because there is one slot matched)
but what about this?
easy. place 1 cobble for 1 slot matched. If you put 4 mossy cobble, for example, the signal would be: 4x3=12.
This system could allow the pressure plates to be attached with redstone to a dispenser, 15 redstone meters away, meaning that EVERY slot HAS to be matched in order to activate it. It would be attached to a steam of water, carrying the item from the dispenser, to the player. What this could do, is allow you to make non-NPC, non-MCEdit vanilla custom shops.
for example, you can have 3 2 64 traded in for some enchanted armour. You can even place the pressure plate 50m below the ground, in a hole, so the players cannot get their items back.
That's a great system! It is almost exactly how I wanted it to function (although my idea for the GUI was different).

That's not a bad idea - there could be an option in the GUI that allows you to select either drop or hold. However, this is getting a bit too advanced for vanilla Minecraft, which is meant to be easy to understand.
Oh and, how about the crafting recipe makes 2-4 pressure plates? this will make it a lot easier to make server shops.
Nether Quartz is meant to be a hard resource to get, but once found, comes in huge quantities. There is plenty of Nether Quartz to make multiple plates. Simply put, if Mojang changes the current pressure plate recipes to make 2, then the Nether Quartz Pressure Plates should make 2.
Good Idea, But We Can Just Use The Already Existing Quartz Block Texture...
Support, Except For The Texture.
Firstly, you should of checked what snapshot this was based off. I used the nether quartz item's texture to design this before the nether quartz blocks were added. I think it would look good with the chiseled block texture.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I'm (sorta) back, and with better grammar and more maturity.

Yes. You can do a lot. This is making it easier.
Full support here. Sounds good to me.
