We now have a block that constantly outputs a redstone signal, much like redstone torch. Unlike the torch though, it can't be deactivated. In fact it is a CONSTANT SOURCE. It in no way can interact with any signal coming to it.
I had indeed been waiting for a redstone block, but I was hoping it would be a contictive block, just like redstone powder. And because a block fills the entire unit (it's not just a surface coating like the powder) it would permit UPWARD and DOWNWARD building of redstone circuits, without setups (and often very ackward ones for the simplest of tasks) that involve multiple blocks of other materials to hold redstone powder in a pattern that generally builds upward, when maybe all I need is to get a redstone signal five blocks up from a switch at ground level (such as for "house wiring" to turn on ceiling lights made from redstone lamps, using switches at ground level).
Unfortunately this "always on" output of redstone blocks doesn't achieve what I'm looking for. For what I'm building, I need them to act like omni-directional redstone wires (normal redstone wires made of redstone powder aren't omni directional, but rather only conduct in up to 4 directions, by leaving leaving out the up and down directions).
Please send this message to Mojang for me, if you have a way of getting it to him. I need a redstone block that is a CONDUCTIVE block, NOT a signal-source block.
Just to let you know, as it currently exists, IT IS USELESS! If I want a source block, I'll take any other block, put a switch (called a "lever" in the game) on it, and turn it on.
It is far from useless sir. It can compact original T flip-flops and can be a source of power for rails and many more things). Calling it useless is a bit of an exaggeration, I would rather have a new block than change the original.
Don't forget that theses snapshots are hardly done, so many new features and improvements are to come.

Hey, if you want to make sure I saw what you said, quote me on it.
No, redstone block allows us to send input to all 6 directions, what is impossible to achieve any other way. However, I'd still appreciate some kind of vertical redstone.
No it doesn't allow us to send input to all 6 directions. It won't let me connect a switch to it. IT IS ALWAYS ON! INPUT means an ACTION FROM THE PLAYER (like pushing a button or flipping a switch). that PRODUCES A REDSTONE SIGNAL. IT DOES NOT DIRECT INPUT TO ALL DIRECTIONS!!!! INSTEAD IT CONSTANTLY GENERATES ITS OWN SIGNAL IN ALL DIRECTIONS!!!!!
I don't want a vertical redstone. I want a 6 direction redstone. It would be a single block that would take input from any one of its 6 sides, and then send the signal to its remaining 5 sides. This would allow me to do household wiring where I have a switch at ground level and then maybe 10 blocks up, I would have a light fixture (that is to say a "redstone lamp") that would be activated by this switch. As of now, HOUSEHOLD WIRING IS ALL BUT IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!
Here's my latest version of my suggestion. Please me what you think:
I think that in future versions of Minecraft, the item called "block of redstone" should not generate its own signal, but rather be an omni-directional variety of redstone. It would take a redstone signal from one or more sides and then output it to the remaining sides (including up and/or down if those sides were not being used as input sides). Currently with redstone powder wires I can only send signals in up to 4 directions, and UP and DOWN are NOT AMONG THE DIRECTIONS that the signal will travel. And the problem with "block of redstone" as it is now is that it is CONSTANTLY PRODUCING REDSTONE SIGNAL, without any input at at. It is less of an omnidirectional redstone wire (as I was hoping it would be) and more of a "redstone generator" (which is useless for the things I'm building). Other's have expressed interest in keeping it as it is, so maybe instead of changing the "block of redstone" you could create a new similar block that could behave as I described.
You see, I would like my Minecraft house to have "household wiring" in the walls, so that a switch at ground level could activate a light (that is a "redstone lamp") maybe 5 to 10 blocks up. Now currently to make an electrical conduit that high I need to have a staircase by which the redstone powder wire goes forward 1 block for every block up it goes. With a redstone block I can imagine creating internal wiring in my house where I could use a "block of redstone to send the signal in whatever direction I need (up, down, left, right, forward, or backward), in order get the signal from my switch to all the ceiling and wall lights in my house. I could easily direct the signal wherever it needed to go.
Like redstone powder wires the signal would have to be boosted with a "repeater" to get it to go more than 15 blocks. Only now moving a block would count vertical as well as horizontal distances. And as with conventional redstone circuits, it would need have the the "repeater" placed on a horizontal section of the circuit, which would provide some limitation (and thus a challenge) when building with this new block.

Calm down. No reason we cannot discuss this like civilized human beings. Now, I'll admit I'm not very good with redstone, but what you're describing sounds completely different, so, as already suggested, I would prefer for this to be a different block.

Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.

Curse PremiumAlthough I do wish that redstone block would give off weak light.
