This has been suggeted before, but I have added some idea of my own.
I hope this is a valid reason for this post to not be locked.
Rope is a very useful tool in the real world. Why shouldn't it be the same in real life?
Rope would have a light brown texture.
It can be crafted like this for a rope.
Rope is used for tying things together. You can connect 2 blocks with rope by right-clicking on 1 block and then doing the same to the one you want to connect. They can be disconnected by left clicking on the rope. It will then drop the rope as a item.
It can also tie boats to a block. This would work by right-clicking on a boat with a rope, and then doing the same with a block. It is disconnected the same way as with 2 regular blocks.
Another use for rope involves gravity affected blocks. If a gravity-affected block is tied to another block, it won't fall.
Rope can work with pistons by having the block tied to a piston or stick piston to be affected by the piston.
There is one problem. Except for boat connections, should ropes be placed like tripwire? or is the current idea better?

apart from previous suggestions, I would be happy with this, oh more uses
1. Tying mine carts together
2 Walk on rope or ziplines
3.Hanging objects like wool to attract mobs, or diamonds to attract people.
4. Right click on a rope connected to a lever to pull lever (traps?)
5. Being able to climb up verticle ropes
Edit- P.S. Shame for double post!... Sorta, they were far apart I guess

This. Also circle ropes should trigger a trap if stepped on, like those tree traps that keep you hanging.

i suggest having to make a hook to attach to the rope and be able to throw it some where and be able to vertically climb it and be able to shoot it from a bow and an arrow and be able to climb it horzontilly(sorry for bad spelling i hope you can still under stand this)
I think it should have some more uses... like if you place it leading down a cliff or something, it can be climbed like a ladder, but slower. Or maybe into a grappling hook of some sort (I think that's been suggested before though).
The only problem I see is the fact that sand and gravel can't really be held up by a rope, and I think it needs more uses. I still support though.

It's a possible idea. It might be a bit hard to program though.

This sounds cool, but some things that you should be able to do are to make minecart trains with rope, and maybe being able to hang it and attach a food item or wheat to attract animals/monsters.

Your first idea is already in community suggestions, the others are good possibilities.
perhaps connect it to some form of knob, allowing you to leash mobs to a certain spot, hang over ledges by pressing it with a rope, allow a minimal amount of free running (stick it to the ceiling and let your momentum drag you over a gap), mooring posts for boats. perhaps another side suggesion: ropes can be stuck into a dispenser and used to stuck players and mobs, and if used with a pressure rail, stop mining carts (effectively being a station rail and a trap in one)
Those are some pretty nice suggestions. I might add some to the community ideas section.
You know what would be cool? Tight-rope walking.
Just kidding I think a cool idea would be if ropes could attach to the bottom of a block and have an anvil suspended from it. Then, in ways that I haven't really thought about, the rope would be severed when someone walked on a pressure plate and the anvil would fall.

Tada!
Thanks for the Support.
Intersting idea.
A little bit, even though it would probably be a little less thick.
Thanks for the support.
