Igniter Crafting recipe:
Seven cobblestone
One redstone
One flint-and-steel
Basically, when this block receives a redstone charge, it outputs fire onto its top surface. This allows you to build redstone-powered fireplaces, fire traps, or trash compactors.
Optional add-in:
It has a HUD with six slots. Putting redstone (or netherrack?) into these slots dictates onto which face the fire will be output, if that's something you think is so important. This is optional because, well, I'm not sure what a great idea it is, but it's probably fine.
Fire Sensor Crafting Recipe:
One Nether Quartz
Six blocks of stone.
This sensor outputs a redstone current when it is in a valid position to catch fire from nearby flame. Useful for rigging to fire-fighting equipment, or running checks against an igniter. Let me know what you think of this.
It's interesting because I've never seen this. Though a piston blocking a lava path to whatever does the same job I support.
Not quite the same job--lava is significantly more dangerous and slower. Plus, these are more compact and cheaper.
One idea that the igniter could pull off that lava probably couldn't is a reliable partially-automated meat cooker. Basically, you have an animal pen with retractable piston floor over a bank of igniters. The pistons pull out the floor, dropping the mobs and activating the igniters, which set the mob aflame. A fire alarm attached to a delay shuts down the igniters so they don't destroy the now-cooked meat as the animal dies from flame damage.
There is already a thread for the first idea. (see banner). As for the 2nd idea, it's not bad. With all the detectors they are adding, this could work.

EDIT:
Pencilshavings5 had this idea a week ago. Gott dang. Check it, yo.

Accidentally posted early. It's fixed, now.
Over all i SUPPORT
I... wow. I know there's no way you'll believe me, but that's a complete coincidence. So, uh.... support, I guess. Yeah.
Nah its all okay man, we both want the same thing, I was also wondering if I should tweet my thread to dinnerbone, see if he likes it.
Well, I'm tweetering him right now.
I was told he doesn't respond to suggestion tweets... But worth a try.
