Hello everyone! I wanted to get an idea out there for a new ranged weapon in Minecraft that would be a little easier to create than a bow, and I thought slingshots maybe? They could be crafted with 3 sticks and a piece of string. Fairly simple, you would only need to kill a spider or two to get the string drop. And as for ammo, I was thinking Iron nuggets from an Iron ingot. I guess you could do gold nuggets too, but that would be expensive. Or maybe cobblestone to pebbles? Anyway, just throwing it out there, would love to hear some feedback.
Yoda is saying that this idea is quite original, and fits into Minecraft like a well oiled hand, but would like to see an improved crafting recipe that somehow implements leather. Yoda supports.
decent idea(although suggested a lot), but you should go into more detail, like how much damage, how long to fire, etc.

Sam- I left this here because I know you like MC and hope you are on this forum. this is alex, from gym and geography class. the kid with long hair and glasses. make an account and msg me if you see this.
I like the idea of adding leather to the recipe, that would make it more realistic. I actually like the first recipe with 4 sticks of wood, 2 string and 1 leather. Using pebbles rather than Iron would definitely be less damaging, I'm thinking 5 or 6 shots with pebbles to kill a mob and 3 or 4 with Iron nuggets. It would probably shoot much like the bow with 3 different charge levels. Shooting a fire charge with a slingshot? Now that would be awesome! All good ideas! As far as what else it could do? Maybe trip switches like arrows do or break glass panes ; ) And if it was enchanted with silk touch, glass panes would just pop out instead of breaking!

Yeah, speaking like yoda is totally not something that's been overdone. Please stop this, you're being very unfunny.

And why exactly would I craft a dinky slingshot when I could have a bow..?
The idea behind crafting a slingshot would be that it would be a good start for a ranged weapon. It would be a heck of a lot easier to craft and find ammo for it than trying to slay a ton of skeletons for arrows or go digging around in gravel for a chance of flint and then finding and slaying chickens for feathers to craft arrows. With a slingshot, you could just use a bit of iron or cobblestone for ammo. And, since they aren't dinky in real life (One well placed ball of steel will kill quail and rabbit real quick), I don't think they would be dinky in Minecraft.

The Enderman says that this feature has been already suggested once, and that too it is more popular and has more supporters.
They could be crafted with 3 sticks and a piece of string. Did you know that the bow is crafted with 3 sticks and 3 string? So why should I craft a lesser bow just so I can save 2 pieces of string?
I was thinking seeds but then I realised, who really has a surplus of seeds large enough to rationlize them as slingshot ammo. Good idea though. Not fond of iron nuggets though. Stone is quite good though. Cheaper than arrows. Not like iron nuggets.

Crafting this weapon is almost like crafting the bow, but with 2 less string. I think I'd rather wait a bit until I get that extra 2 string to craft a good bow rather than this weaker slingshot.
Isn't that asking the same question as "Why have wooden swords in mc, when I can just have diamond?"?
N... no? How the hell are you even making that comparison? We start with wooden swords so we have something to work with until we find better materials. These slingshots don't even require better resources, because it needs two less string than crafting a bow. The ammo is also different, being iron nuggets and rocks. So no, those questions aren't the same...

Yes, that is my point. "...so we have something to work with until we find better materials." The idea for a slingshot would be that it is easier to create Ammo, seeing as we all seem to have a surplus of iron and cobblestone in our chests. Or at least I do. A "good bow" would be great to have...But a "good bow" is pointless without Arrows. It's not so much the crafting of the slingshot to save string as it is
having enough Ammo to use it with.

Again, not about saving string. It's all about the ammo. A bow is useless without it's arrows. Which, in my opinion, take a long while to create. That's if you want a couple good stacks. I love using a bow, it just takes a while to make arrows.

In some ways, this slingshot could be overpowered, because finding ammo for it would be so painstakingly easy. You're not gonna run out of cobblestone. This could cause some players to get lazy and stick to the easy infinite cobblestone ammo without making the effort for bows and arrows. How much damage does the slingshot rocks do?
Now, there's a very small chance that I may end up liking this idea in the end.

But now I'm thinking that if it sounds a little overpowered, 6 shots with pebbles and 4 with Iron nuggets. Then again, I use Iron a lot, so I would probably be sticking with cobblestone. And maybe one would only get 4 pebbles from each cobblestone, just to keep it from being too overpowered?

Talking like Yoda isn't new, but claiming to be Yoda while failing to mimic his speech style isn't all that common.
