this is where i finally present the great idea (finally right?). i think the nether should have an extra type of mob. they could be called harder pigmen or plus pigmen or even scary pigmen or agitated pigmen. these are pigmen that have the same looks of the zombie pigmen but have different colors.
these pigmen are a bit rarer but are much deadlier to beat. they have double health of regular zomb pigmen. they do between double to triple damage points. they can sometimes do damage PAST the armor even if armor is diamond and enchanted. they drop dark zombie flesh which heals lots of hunger but can damage health sometimes. they also drop 1-2 gold nuggets and sometimes a diamond. these new pigmen can move a bit faster too.
update - these pigmen are now optional and can be turned off
Pigmen on their own are hard to beat. Not because they are strong, but because the terrain in the Nether is treacherous. You could be moving backwards and fall off a cliff, fall into a lava pit, burn in a fiery lava fountain, get shot in the back by a ghast, have the pigmen reinforcements hit you in the back, and so on.
In my opinion I think the pigmen are perfectly balanced, and should not be upgraded or degraded. Sorry, but you don't have my support.
well true. but you don't have to fight these new pigmen if you don't want to.
the issue is... the nether isn't really as hard as it should be and these new pigmen would add to that. the terrain isn't very dangerous if you pay attention to your surroundings

i've seen things in minecraft man... strange things...
How can you pay attention to the front and back of you? To get back to your post, the nether isn't actually easy either. If you think it's too easy, then switch up the difficulty level, there's a reason Minecraft has that.
So, Runick. Can I ask why you type in all italics?
because it's sexy.
OT: No, I don't think those mobs are upgrades of each other except maybe the spiders. And this is a poorly thought out conception of the need of an "upgrade" for a pigman.

I would love it if you checked out my "about me" page on my profile and looked at my threads I'm always happy to see new posters.
So... like Wither Skeletons?
I think it would be better to make wither skeletons spawn more commonly and in more areas, than adding a super powered pigman. Assuming it acts like other pigmen, and doesn't aggro on you unless you attack it or other pigmen, it wouldn't really add much anyway.
Also, I strongly dislike toggles.
If anything we need a downgrade (is that a word?) of zombie pigmen. They're the most difficult mob to kill (next to wither skeletons and bosses) in my opinion.

You do realize the only person who uses your banner is you.
Upgrades? Heh, of course not. All ocelots do is scare away creepers. Wolves kill most other mobs fairly easily. Iron golems can take down MOST mobs better, but they are large and can't fit through doors. Ghasts are not better than creepers, as snowballs can deflect their balls and kill them easily. Toggleable option for a better pigman? Maybe a screen to select which mobs are allowed ONCE, when you create the world, but an OPTION IN THE MENU? NO way. Making something toggle-able rarely makes it better, it usually just makes it worse. Really? Having it say "Do you support or do you support?" just makes you seem like a 9-year-old-braggart. No support whatsoever. Please do not just say "No reason to not support it, because it is optional!" or stuff like that.
I don't agree with this, I personally think that zombie pigmen are pretty easy to kill, but lots of people don't. Also, dark rotten flesh just doesn't really make all that much sense.
Adding a stronger NEUTRAL mob won't make the nether any harder to survive
in. It would give the player an optional "challenge" (Read: Spam-clicking test)
but it wouldn't make the Nether a more dangerous place.
how is an ocelot better than a wolf? It can't attack.
I guess, at least the golem attacks...
I suppose, but snow is so much easier to get AND it takes less snow to make a snow golem, so you could make a massive snowman army much eagier than a single golem.
True, but that should be changed.
Not really, ghasts are less powerful (explosion wise) and die quicker. It really depends on your scenario. Sometimes it's much easier to kill a ghast.
Cave spiders have less health though, and can only spawn from sppawners... but I see where you are coming from.
Ok, you can have this one.
So, what is the colour difference? Darker? Redder?
I... wow. That is powerful. I am not sure. They are neutral right?
Interesting drops. I'm not sure about the dark zombie flesh, but I quite like it. Perhaps gold ingots instead of gold nuggets. After all they are pretty tough.
How? Peaceful mode?
Maybe support. Perhaps these could be the non-zombie pigmen? Just a thought.
Exactly! They are good if they are RARE, and mobs are not just upgrades. Toggle-able is a bad way to justify anything. Having these as the non-zombie pigmen is actually a good idea.
wolves ---> ocelots
ocelots ->> snow golem
snow golem --> village golem
pigs -> cows
creepers -> ghast
spider ---> cave spider
slime -- magma cube

so i'm adding the option to turn them off in the options screen
