I realized one day that none of the "rivers" in the game are actually rivers, so I think this would add some more good realism:
Flowing source block water. This would be more complicated and would involve a change to the game, probably a new water block that flows in a certain direction in a flat body of water. This would allow flat rivers that actually don't go down to flow like real rivers. This would also allow rivers flowing down hills/mountains (see below) to work without just having one source block at the top that flows down.
Adding the generation of rivers going down hills and mountains would look really good.
Yeah I would love this in minecraft but imagine seeing a bugged out river with wter flowing to the right then suddenly one part of it counterflows the rest of the river

Yeah, I thought about that. It would be pretty ugly. We'd just have to hope that the programmers don't screw it up.
