Just a basic idea I had the other day, to expand upon the anvil's semi-limited current capabilities.
This would be the crafting recipe:
Or, an alternate recipe suggested by ThatCephalopod:
(Thanks to ThatCephalopod for the images!)
The gold anvil would have more efficient level usage on item enchants (would cost less to get same enchants, inline with other gold items), AND it would also have a higher level cap (50 instead of 40). To balance this out, the gold anvil takes far more precious resources to make, and would have fewer uses (have a 30% chance for damage per use rather than 12%). I feel this would be a decent trade off, and the gold anvil would follow the "style" the gold tools/armor do.
In addition to the above, the gold anvil MIGHT (tell me what you guys think) have a new feature: the ability to, for a cost of XP and resources (just like a normal anvil), remove a specific enchant from an item. The cost and amount of resources required to remove the enchant would vary with how "useful" it was, much as the current repair system's XP requirements do. Finally this addition should have a high chance for damaging the anvil (40%).
Overall I feel this would be useful to higher end players who feel limited by the iron anvil's capabilities. Tl;dr?
PROS:
-Better enchant efficiency
-Higher enchant level cap
-Ability to remove specific enchants (possible)
CONS:
-Requires significantly more valuable resources
-Breaks far more quickly
I like this, but I don't think there should be a diamond in the center. It just seems out of place to me. Anyways, here is an image that might help you make sure everyone knows what we are talking about:
If each use has a 30% chance of breaking the anvil you'll get on average 4 uses, presuming you don't use the remove enchant feature. This compares to the average of 9 uses for the standard anvil. Overall I think it's fairly balanced as is, considering you could make some really goldly tools with this.
Will add a pole if this gets more support. Thanks to everyone so far.

I can't tell if you're troll, or just weird.
There was no gold block icon, so he used yellow wool.

Obvious Troll is obvious or confused.

Your Idea.
Here is the code for the op:

Any reason for 67? Also, don't forget the xp efficiency. So what'd be a level 38 enchant on an iron anvil might only be 30 on this one.
