So, I've been thinking about this for a long time, but I haven't shared it with anyone before today. Right now, end-game items in Minecraft are very... well, not-so end game. You can get enchantment tables very near the start of a world, and brewing stands just a little farther. I'm at a point in my month-old world where I've done everything there is to do; I fought and beat the Enderdragon and the Wither, I built a huge fortress, complete with multiple beacons and towers, etc. Everything. What I propose is that there is a new mechanic (*one that partially already exists, actually*): One that makes something difficult to do, but, after being done, it's easier to do in the future.
*Spiders drop string, allowing you to create a bow, which allows an easier kill of a spider.*
There should be more of this mechanic, such as (first, making wither skulls more common, making the Wither a little bit easier to kill and increasing drop amounts for the Nether Star {multiple from one battle}) including a Nether Star in the crafting recipe of many end-game items, such as the Enchantment Table and the Brewing Stand. Fighting the Wither without potions and enchanted items is foolish, right? I propose that it's initially required. Fighting a spider with nothing but a stone sword is foolish, right? It is required, and that's what makes it fun.
This is only a puny window into all of my suggestions on this topic and all of its possibilities, so feel free to expand upon the idea.
I'm still not that sure about the Nether Star being required for the Enchantment Table/Brewing Stand, but it would encourage exploration a lot sooner than it does now.
I see what you're getting at but I don't believe the enchantment table and brewing stand should be end-game. Especially on multiplayer where the end is pretty much claimed by 1 group of people or just shut down, except on peaceful servers where enchanting and brewing is less useful.
I don't think the nether star should be used for anything else except that beacon in my opinion.
Now that I think about it, I don't, either, unless they added a super end-game item.
But in that case, the Wither should be more difficult to kill.
I don't think it's fair that you can just trap it in bedrock and get Jump Boost II, the best thing ever.
If you want Wither Skulls to be a bit easier to get, I suggest checking out the topic in my signature.*1
As to the rest of the idea, I would want more specifics before saying anything for sure.*2
1* I really like that idea! The nearest nether fortress to me is about 500 blocks away and I seriously dislike going that far just to get 50 bones and 27 coal, but no wither skulls.
2* I expected this response from someone, but, forgive me, I'm not good at conveying ideas.
It goes like this:
There's an element in Minecraft (*beginning of the game, though) that makes you do something tough, and, as a reward, said task will become easier. It's already in there as *killing a spider gives you string, which gives you a bow, which makes spiders easier to kill. Even in beacons, actually, summon the wither in your arena, kill it, get a nether star, build a beacon, make future withers easier to kill. But then, those are about the only to examples of this element in the game, and they're really fun elements. So, that's why I made this topic.

That's fine; you have your own opinion, as does everyone else.
1* Yeah, I didn't think of that. But that would take a really long time to do.
2* I can, too, but I know a lot of people who can't.
