=================================================================================
All of you minecraftians know how bland pvp is. I feel like we should make something that will provide variety to the armor and tools used. What I want to add is a skill tree function. What I mean by this, is that let's say you have a wood sword. If you kill enough mobs you could get skill points. Then you could use those skill points to upgrade weapon trees to get passive boosts. The sword and bow would consist of 4 possible trees. For the swords you could have Stealth, Tank, DoT, and AoE. For the bows you could have Penetration, Speed, DPS, and the Grappler. Each tree will have 2 passives and 1 active ability. The player can only choose 1 Sword Tree, and 1 Bow tree.
Collecting Skill Points
=================================================================================
To collect these skill points, you would have to kill a certain amount of mobs. Like to get the first passive for Stealth, you would have to kill about 25 mobs, and for the second Stealth passive you would have to kill another 50 mobs and so on. You could also get skill points by killing other players that have unlocked their passives.
The Trees
=================================================================================
As said before each tree would have 2 passives, 1 active ability, and there would be 4 trees for each weapon. Again, the swords tree would consist of Stealth, Tank, DoT, and AoE. The stealth tree would have a name tag passive that would make the users name tag harder to see. The second passive would be a 20% attack bonus when striking from behind. The active ability would be an ability that makes the user invisible for a short amount of time. For the next tree, tank, the first passive would be one that reduces damage taken by 10%. The second passive would be something that reduces the effect of knockback. The active ability would be something that reduces damage by 25% for 5 seconds. The DoT tree would have one passive where you would have a 10% chance of inflicting Fire II or Poison II. The second passive would make it so that your critical hits do 5% more damage. The active ability would be one where for 10 seconds there is a 20% chance of inflicting blindness. For the last sword tree, AoE, the first passive would be something where if you are at 25% health or lower, you would have a burst that would do about 2 1/2 hearts of damage while having the knockback affect. For the second passive you would have a 10% chance of inflicting all enemies around you with weakness II when hit by a critical hit. As for the active ability
I would rather would be a plugin/mod, as we have experience to customize pvp a lot already. Plus, I don't really wanna play World of Warcraft in minecraft. This whole tree system only would work if it is turn based attacks, as to not make it all op.
I like it. Pvp is horribly bland. I want something to work for in pvp, other than taking people's stuff. Griefing is the only other way of getting stuff anyway.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
While i think minecraft combat needs a lot of improvement i dont think skill trees are the way to do it all it would do is add passives to do more damage in different ways what we really need to make combat better is to add fighting moves and make blocking..... actually block attacks.
I don't exactly see how this improves combat as eventually at some point you would have maxed every skill. Then it would simply be the same thing as it is now.
In terms of skill suggestions? At one point I liked them, but I don't now. I would rather see the player gain skills, not their avatar. This suggestion of course heavily favors the in-game character gaining skills, rather than the real-life player becoming more skillful at combat.

No support.
