I did use the search feature and I didn't see anything quite like this so I thought I'd post it.
This is an upgrade from the regular boat which provides two things.
The first is when in an ocean and coming upon land, it doesn't break into the usual wood planks and sticks. It remains the same but it does have a durability of, lets say 15 hits. So go to shore 15 times then in breaks, or if you hit an octopus 15 times it breaks. It would break into it's usual planks and sticks as well 5-8 iron ingots.
The second think it will be able to do which would be a great help in the nether, would be to float on lava, but at a much slowing pace then if the boat would be in water. Lets say the boat can go 5 in water, it can only go 3 in lava. That's an example again. The Iron Keel Boat when in a dropped state over lava will float on top of lava, and to go to shore without you going into lava, it would be a good idea to carry around half slabs to place so you can land on those instead of going into the lava when your boat goes into it's drop stage.
Here are the mats which I think is balanced considering it will be able to float on lava both when your in it and in it's dropped stage.
For me I rarely use boats and this item will be almost indestructible unless you hit shore and squids a ton of times. It's a one time make. I see the mats as reasonable, but an idea came to me while typing this, every time you place it, besides if you hit land, the durability of it is used up. So replacing the two side iron blocks with iron ingots again with was the original blueprint I put up there, it would be more reasonable to down grade the iron blocks on the side back to ingots again. It could be like a carrot on a stick, but with a much longer durability. So even while you ride in it the durability is diminishing.
At the moment I'm throwing ideas out here for the mats of the blueprint and what's reasonable and not OP.

A A A
I A I
I I I
A = Air
I = Iron Block
Support just because it can be used on lava.
That works to.
Well, it is an iron keel boat, not an iron boat.
Anyways, I support this idea.
