I personally think voice chat would be a great idea in Minecraft like on the xbox version
Because even if we do use a mod to enable voice chat nobody uses the same mod so not everybody can talk to each other if they feel like it.
So I think voice chat should really be considered
Oh god no. That would be horrible. Everyone on a server would be yelling at eachother, making fart/sex noises in the mic, playing music, randomly yelling curses. NO.
If you want to talk with people on a server, use skype, or team speak, or ventrillo, or mumble, or SOMETHING. But this would not work in minecraft. no support.

Optional option for opcional options that optionally option to option between the options. Catch' it?

Minecraft's Java + decent mic support = no, not really. I'm sure you think the idea is great, but might end up sucking in the long run.

What's with everyone's boner over voice chat support? Typing takes longer but isn't that bad. Just enjoy the game without 9 different crackling mid-pitch teen voices fighting for vocal control.

Ventrilo and Teamspeak are free to use... I run Ventrilo with my Minecraft Server, It's pretty straightforward to run a server and its Cross Platform (Win, OS X, Linux). Also, if you have a Skype Account you can VoIP in a group now (I've seen up to six at once so far).

Or it could be area-of-effect, it could be "Survivalistic".
