When most people walk into a village, they are not expecting much excitement. You might rob the villagers of a few wooden planks, maybe trade with the villagers even thought there is nothing really good to trade. Heck, all i ever do is take the stuff from the blacksmith. Im not saying villager are 'bad' or 'boring' but they do lack.... enthusiam. What if that changed...?
What if there was actually a good reason for searching for the structures?
My ideas.....
Okay, for one lets get the villages and expand them into somthing bigger like towns. Not like a modern day town, but a small town with small structures and more structures. A town with DIFFERENT structures like maybe a small cobblestone castle with a town leader inside. Or town barracks where guards sleep. Hmm guards... leaders... sounds good so far. Okay now lets add different groups of people. Maybe some slaves or laborers. Richfolk and maybe some beggers. Mercenarys and thieves. Workers and traders. Nice, now doesent that sound good so far? Okay, lets think of some different objectives or goals or whatnot. Maybe the mercenarys can give quest to beat up a certain person in the city. Maybe the traders want you to collect ten leather. Adding objectives, quest, missions, or whatever you want to add gives the player a reason to want to trade with the villagers. It makes things so much more INTRESTING. Oh and i forgot, maybe each city can have its own mine. (We are still playing MINECRAFT people) Maybe you can hire the certain kinds of people to follow you around. Maybe you can order them to mine, hunt, gather and return to you. Why is this a good idea?
Well... duh. More stuff for those plane villages. Makes minecraft a little bit more intresting. Everything i mentioned would probably make villages better, well actually cities, but you know what i mean. Please tell what you think.
It makes minecraft too rpg like and easy to exploit. Players can just lock all of them up in cages to easily fulfill quests. This forces players to find a city just to get resources easily.
No support.
Minecraft is not an RPG game. No quests. Yes, it makes the game more interesting but it will change the game too much. A game where you mine is not a game where you serve a town your whole life.
And plus, we do not need new mobs.
Guards: Iron Golem
Leaders: They are independent of each other
Slaves: No. Never.
Richfolk: All of them have so much Emeralds
Mercenaries: All of the adult villagers sell
I think this is a good idea actually Villagers are plain and boring I think they need more excitement.
All support

1.How many times have you seen an iron golem spawn naturaly in a village? For me, I have never seen one spawn naturaly.
2.Why should there not be slaves?
3.Why can't that change? It could be so that different villagers have different amounts of money.
4.Mercenaries are hired soldiers. They are not Merchants.
I think this is a good idea, but I think maybe it would be better with a little more structure. I don't think I want quests, but I like the idea of a castle in the village and maybe bigger average village spawning sizes. More variety to the villagers roles would be ok, but I think that their role should be related to what they trade you or something.

Minecraft is a sandbox game. It's got a little of everything.
Personally, i like building cities. It would be cool to see larger villages, but im sure that wouldn't help performance any.
Not so keen on the quests though.
I don't like the quests idea. Also players would just steal all the resources from the cities and it would be an infinite source of those resources all through the game.

Levelling up. That is enough. But the way you level up is quite different: Mining, Smelting, etc. for one exp bar.
Usually in RPG games, there are separate skills: cooking, hunting, smithing, etc.
