One of my favorite things in RPG's(and video games in general) is magic! If a game gives me the opportunity to use spells I will take it. I don't know about you, but I'd love to see magic in Minecraft, but I relize it would be a hard thing to do. so here are my suggestions!
I know we already have enchanting and potion brewing and that is magic, butI'm talking about SPELLS. I've came up with 2 different types of magic:
ATTACK:Attack magic is. Well. Magic that hurts people. This type of magic can destroy blocks, do direct harm to mobs and players, or give mobs and players negative effects.
SUPPORT: Most of you are probably scratching you headssaying "How could this be useful for anything but PvP?" While this is useful for PvP. This can be used insurvival to. It can be used to support yourself and your battle pets (wolves, snow golems, and iron golems)while also being useful to support you buddies in multiplayer. This magic can heal, create magic sheilds (which will break after taking damage), or give you, mobs, and other players positive effects.
They're 2 ways (as far as I can see) that this could be handled.
Spellbooks: There will be 6 elements. Fire, ice, earth, lighting, dark, and light. Therefore, there will be 6 spellbooks. One for each element. These spellbooks hold ALLLLLLL the spells of each element, but they wont all be unlocked at first. You'll need to unlock most spells using your xp, the stonger the spell the more xp It'll cost you
Staffs and/or Wands: The 6elements still apply. Each staff and/or wand will cast a different spell. The stronger the spell, the more resource intensive crafting the staff and/or wand is.
You can't be able to cast spells unlimited times. That would over power you! Just like enchanting cost xp spells need to cost something, and if it's xp then I WILL KILL YOU that would be a HUGE waste of xp! Just make it mana. How would you do that? Just like every other game.
I hope you like my ideas and if you don't then, in the comments, tell me what you don't like about them (please be polite about it) or post your own ideas!
How do you regen mana, do you level up as a wizard or something?
How do you make a wand or a spellbook?
This has been suggested in various forms many times, but I do like some specifics here as in the elements.
You'd need to elaborate more.
You regen mana over time
Spellbooks are made by mixing a book with componets based on what element of book you're trying to make (for example: glowstone is one of the componets for a book of light) and staffs and/or wands are made by mixing a stick with componets based on the spell It'll cast (for example: blaze powder will be one of the components for making a staff and/or wand that casts wall of fire)
ONLY if when you cast anything, this plays.
If so you have my absolute support. If not, then no. OH, and the death message for being killed by magic needs to be: Strottinglemon didn't believe in magic.

Your idea is extremely funny! But I fear if that plays then no one would take magic seriously, but the I love the death message idea. (btw that was the reference)
