Ok, Lets face it. The invisibility potion is slightly overpowered in PvP. The only way to know if someone is there, is to turn your particles on and meticulously search your screen.
Should we Remove it? No
Should we Change it?No
Then what should we do?
Well... Simple, the only way to fix this problem is to add a way around it. A way to fight it with more ease.
How you may be asking, I'll tell you. All we have to do is add another effect to the Potion of Night Vision. The Potion of Night Vision should allow us to see invisible Players as well as Mobs in a ghost like way. EI, if someone is invisible and you drink a Potion of Night Vision, you start to see him as a ghost (see through but still visible) for the duration of the Potion.
What do you think? Do you think that this is a bad/good Idea? Do you think this slight nerf is too little/too much? Please! Tell me in the comment section!
I just wanted to make it understood that you would only see the invisible player if you had the Potion of Night Vision effect. With the Night Vision Potion, you would only see the invisible player as a sort of Ghost. I hope this clears things up.
would be nice throw some ink to make players visible again
joking
but I don't think they will create something to see someone that is invisible. If you are invisible, noone should see you...

I know what you are on about, not everyone is playing this game on the latest compuers, there are peoplet hat simply can't play with particles at the level needed to see particle effects.
But I have seen similar features in other games, it only destroys the ogriginal intent, that way it is more likely that this idea will end up as a mod. The thought was good, but you would probably destroy more features than you create new ones with this...
No support for this particular solution, I will not post my own thought of a solution as that would be off-track because the topic is set to night vision, which my idea does not involve. Though this suggestion certainly is unique it is sadly lacking the ever so much needed correlation with pre-existing features in the game. Thus the resulting conclusion is that this is not suited for vanilla.
Instead of letting the night vision potion allow you to view players, I would rather have another an entirely new potion, using some a new ingredient. Poison taters maybe? I would want it to be a bit expensive/rare. Nice idea, I just don't like the idea of using the night potion.

Hey, if you want to make sure I saw what you said, quote me on it.
Perhaps we could brew a potion that removes active effects? The addition of gunpowder would provide an invisible person revealing splash potion. It could have quite many uses in general, which prevents being circumstantial (ie: adding a potion because of another potion). I don't think adjusting night eye is -quite- the way to go, even if simpler, but I understand what you are on about.
I will add that though it may be useful in PvP, you can't wear any armor or use a weapon without revealing you location so invisibility surely can't be earth-shattering.

Two things,
1) I hope you understand that you would only be able to see the invisible player as a ghost IF you had the potion of Night Vision effect.
2) This topic is in fact about finding a way to nerf Potions of Invisibility, so you can post your suggestion if you wish.

Yes! Thats a great Idea, perhaps a splash potion made with Milk! (In case you didn't know drinking milk removes potion effects)
Perhaps you should make your own suggestion form, its a great Idea!

Although that is a great idea, I respectfully disagree. I think that we have enough potions and that we should expand the amount each one can do. Then again that's only me. It is a good Idea but I disagree respectfully.
This is where you and I would differ then. I think as other systems naturally expand such as adding new enemies, environmental issues or contraptions, systems should naturally be improved eventually as well. I think that's what we'll see, after all, enchanting is being adjusted significantly with this next update (new enchantment, availability of enchantments previously unobtainable) and the redstone is obviously expanding along with mine carts for 1.5. That was an issue with early development, creating self-contained ideas that never expanded (boats anyone?) but here's to hoping that changes in the future. (especially boats, what the heck?)
I think we should really avoid having one potion that is used for a lot of things. I mean, yes, adding ghost-eye to night-eye is a small change but here's the thing. Perhaps one day we'll have an invisible enemy? Or maybe they'll actually be ghosts as passive mobs! The only way to see them is to brew a ghost-eye potion. Side effect? You can also see invisible people. Natural evolution based upon the needs of the game. Once you take the route of solving problems, you'll never get out from under that rock. Better to just let creativity take its toll.
Like fireworks! Heck yeah! This update is suwheet!

Dude... that is one of the best counter arguments I have ever read. And I must say... you are awesome.
I agree that one potion shouldn't have 1000 different abilities, however I still believe that around 1-2 would be satisfactory. Anymore than that would be quite annoying.
