I believe that pipes should be implemented into the vanilla minecraft. I believe that they would add to the ease of sorting mass quantities of mixed items. I was imagining them along the same lines as the "Buildcraft" piping, where different pipes would perform different tasks (I.E. Stones/Cobblestone for simple transport, Obsidian for "sucking up" items, and so on)
I decided to post this because I was watching Etho saying how much of a hassle it would be if he had to take each individual color or wool and deposit them into their corosponding chests. Although it would add to the complexity of the game, it would also add a good amount of cleanliness to it, as well. I don't believe it would spoil the overall feel of the game, as they would only have one purpose: to transport items. Although, that would also be their downside as well (having very few uses). Yet, It would simplify many of the tasks that I do each Minecraft day. Some examples of their uses would be to sort both hostile and passive mob drops in farms, sorting crops in actual farms, and transporting a large amount of items over a long distance with as few amount of trips as possible.
Although, another disadvantage would be the fact that if a chunk were unloaded, the pipes would be basically useless, unless there were a way to get around that. They may also add lag to the game if too many items were transported at once.
All in all, I believe that they would be a nice addition to the game.
Essentially, Buildcraft is a mod where pipes - wait. Isn't that Industrial Craft? There are just a bunch of different pipes like speed pipes, liquid pipes, sorting pipes, sucking and retrieval pipes and depositer pipes etc. that basically shuttle items and liquids around for automation.
Allocators and minecarts, I think, is the way they're going. (Don't blame me if I'm wrong, though.) Personally, I think pipes are a better solution, as don't require a single vehicle to carry things, and thus you don't have to wait for that vehicle to arrive/depart and coordinate the arriving/departing with whatever you're farming. But I think Mojang would rather sacrifice a little bit of convenience than add a totally new item that only does one thing.

So, if you would be so kind as to explain what the it is you actually want in the game?
