I kind of think we need some mob that is capable of destroying blocks.
Trolls.
They live in little villages (If notch is still doing that) and won't stray too far from it.
3 blocks tall, 2 wide. They destroy all player created blocks they can find, while making loud obnoxious noises.
We need symbolic trolls. :<
Trolls need to say things like "ur stoopid i kill u" in the chat box.
Wait! Wrong kind of troll?
Actually I was thinking it would be funny if they did something like that. But have them be rare enough that you don't have to listen to ''LOLOLOLOLITROLU'' all the time.
Have them wink and do a thumbs up when they see you.
I'd like to see something like this. Perhaps the trolls could also knock other mobs out of the way. I'd love to see a single troll just ramming through a crowd of zombies.
I've always thought Trolls would be like those "Doppleganger" mobs everyone kept mentioning, in that they'd disguise as something easy to kill and lure you into a trap before killing you.
You would have to either add a Boolean variable to every block in the game to determine if it was generated or placed by a player, or alternatively only have them go for blocks that can only be created by players (cobblestone, wood, glass, etc).
They could also destroy things that are likely to be player build. A 1-thick block wall is likely not natural, and should be smashed.
Probably better is they smash blocks that are preventing them from getting to the player. Running out of your fortification would save it, at the increased risk to you.
Though if we had more defensive capabilities while in fortress mode, it would work better. Say, dumping a bucket of lava on their head. I would find that very satisfying.
Why do we need trolls? There are plenty of them on these forums I like a game with plenty of creatures and monsters to encounter, but making them delete blocks will get annoying. I think they should be tall and deal heavy damage and perhaps jump two blocks high to keep things interesting, or will that get annoying?

I think a good idea for how a Troll would spawn would be this:
The game would check to see if monsters can get to the player. If not, it would start the probability of a Troll spawning at 5%.
Each night (3 mins after sundown and 3 mins before sunup) if a mob can't get to you, increase the probably of a troll spawn by 5%. Each player would have their own Troll, thus large cities would be more likely to be attacked, but their probability would only go up by 1% (-1% per nearby person never going below 1%). Once a Troll spawns, it paths as close to a player as it can then makes stirs into whatever wall it finds. Its attacks would take out 3 blocks in a stair pattern so monsters can climb it and attack. Once an open path is reached to the player, the Troll would path away from the player for 3 mins. If the player rebuild their walls in that time, the Troll would come back. After the 3 mins, the Troll would despawn or die knowing it has done it's job.
Perhaps a high level block/enchanted block would allow the 1% increase to go to 0% (thus staying at 5% per night) if there are 5?/10/15? or more players in one area.

You could dig a ditch to keep them out.
or just not build near a troll village. :wink.gif:

i dont think that they should go for player created blocks, they should just charge at where the player is and if there is a wall there, too bad for the wall. but they would only break one layer and stop the charge with a resounding crash, so they would have to smash a second layer (if the player was smart enough) one by one, giving the player a chance to react. the trolls would wander from their village but be kept by from wandering too far by a certain distance from the village. they would have no greater intelligence from the other mobs, they would just have a village around a spawn point. http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13058&p=214181#p214181 see this thread

^^My blog^^
A "troll" would say things like "**** YOU ARSEBREATH"/Charles de lint ref
... Or we could just use the traditional ones.
I was going to say that :x
