Hello, I was out looking at the suggestions, and I thought to myself, lava fishing! I did a search, and I came up with a few results. I'd like to merge some new suggestions with the ones seen in the below post (Never posted on for whatever reason).
The only idea I really had was for fishing in lava. Since a normal fish couldn't survive in lava(Most likely), I figured that a "lava" fish would work. The "Eel" concept seemed to fit the nether better than a fish would. Anyway, this eel would be very hard to catch! Similar to regular fishing, but harder, bobbing less and faster than regular fish. Perhaps, as an animation, you could see them breaking the surface of the lava every once in a while.
Since there's no point to suggesting anything without a point, here's the point. Lava Eels aren't designed for food! Can you imagine eating a burning hot crusty eel fresh out of a lava stream? No, you would use them for potions. I was thinking that by crafting a lava eel, you could get some kind of "Lava stone" out of it, (Similar to a pearl from a clam). This "stone" would be used to make a new potion.
(Thanks to RebD for the suggestion for this potion!) A "Potion of Flames" could be crafted. In it's normal form, it would set you on fire. In it's splash form, it would set entities on fire. This would be great for mas mob cooking, PvP advantages, and those nasty flaming temple traps!
Anyway, to catch a lava eel, you couldn't use a regular fishing rod. I would suggest the "blaze fishing rod" from the post I linked, just for the crafting recipes surrounding the "Strong String" and "Blaze fishing rod".
Please disregard the "Gloves" part of this.
When fishing, if you managed to catch one, the item would fly out- on fire! You would need to wait for it to go out or use a fire resistance potion to get it.
Anyway, more of an aesthetic item than a useful item, I'm open to suggestion about how this would all work. I know many types of "Nether Fishing" have been suggested, I tried to make mine stand out.
Maybe faster swimming in lava+ regular fire res effects?
I don't know how much this could be used, really. people don't normally take lava baths, unless they were prospecting for diamonds underneath lava. I think it should be something similar...but different.
This "stone" would be used to make a new potion. (EDIT: up for discussion what this potion could do. Something lava related, perhaps.)
Still not sold on this idea, but I do have a suggestion for a potion. A potion of fire, when the player drinks it, they catch on fire, useless i know. But when gun powder is added you get a splash potion of fire. It would be way too much effort to bother using on normal mobs and would be useless against nether mobs. However i think it would make a great potion for pvp and more importantly traps.
Just thought of one more use, it would be useful for culling a whole bunch of farm animals, you could kill a whole bunch of chickens for example and not have to bother cooking the meat.

Sounds cool. In combination with fire res potions they'd be pretty useful!

I'm liking this! I'd say this would be a great idea, not very op, hard to obtain, easy to burn up. I'll add this to the post!
It should at least make that the fire cannot be put out(Have a fixed burning time, but needs to be longer than normal),because a Flint and Steel is way superior, to a Fire Potion, only pratical use is to burn great quantities of mobs.

Except it's pretty hard for a flint and steel to be used against someone in a pvp situation, cannot be used in dispensers (as far as i know) and can't be used to burn more than one animal at once. Having said that, I still kind of like the idea of it being harder to put out, like greek fire. But that might make it a little OP. Further thought on that is required I think.
Amos; thanks for crediting me properly, it's all I ask
