This was something that came to mind and I wanted to know what other people think of it and this is my first time posting in the minecraft forums so here goes...
I was looking at the enchantments on the minecraft wiki and noticed they were all the same for all sets of armor. I was thinking, what if armor made of different materials receive different enchantments? For example...
With leather armor, there could be enchantments where you receive a speed boost, feather falling could only be available for leather armor, standard protection enchantments, and if you have all leather armor equipped, you gain a small chance to dodge incoming projectiles and you can gain this chance to dodge whether or not the leather armor is enchanted and you could also deal slightly higher damage when attacking with a bow. so with the first buff mentioned, it can be like the projectile protection only weaker because you only have normal leather armor.
With iron armor, you gain better protection enchantments from physical damage such as damage from swords, arrows, explosions, etc as you have access to higher levels of protection enchantments than the leather or gold armor but the overall base armor count will not as strong as diamond and a boost for wearing all iron armor could be slightly greater damage when using an iron sword or iron axe to attack and decreased fall damage.
As for gold, it would still be weak but can receive certain enchantments that reduce or nullify damage from incoming fireballs from ghasts or blazes, a chance to not be effected by damaging splash potions or it can reduce the effects of non beneficial splash potions, golden swords get a secondary fire mode that shoots a ball of light that acts like a projectile and damages evil mobs only and deals extra damage to mobs from the nether however shooting the projectile would use twice as much durability than attacking. And the boost for gold armor is the ability to float in the air for 2 or 3 seconds, much like the hover boots from Ocarina of Time.
As for the diamond armor, it can receive protection enchantments for both physical and and fireball, or magic damage or whatever you wish to call it, but the enchantment levels for protection against physical or magical damage can't go as high as the enchantments for iron or gold armor. And finally, the diamond armor gains a small regeneration buff if you are wearing a full set of enchanted diamond armor, so if you have non-enchanted diamond armor, you won't receive the regeneration buff.
I thought it would be interesting if using different sets of armor receive their own little bonuses, it could allow for different play styles and different strategies. I'm just guessing this is sorta like leather armor for scouts/rangers, iron for melee, gold for magic/potion users, and diamond for melee/magic and each set provides unique perks when wearing a full set. I want to know what other people think about my idea, so please comment and tell me what you think.
I actually read that in a future updates, full armor sets would receive a buff for protection.
I think that enchantments should be available to everything, no matter what tier though.
