We have melee weapons.
We have ranged bows and splash potions.
We don't have spells.
I wouldn't mind having spells. And not the kind of spells that use "mana" but something else.
This is what I had in mind.
Spells would be cast by holding a "Spellbook" in your hand like one would hold a Sword in your hand, and left clicking. Spells have a certain health like regular items do, and after a certain amount of casts the Spellbook would lose its magical powers and become a regular book again.
A spellbook would be crafted by using a Blank Book with two ingredients at a Spellcraft Table (Made using some mix between wood, books, obsidian, and something else. Something time consuming to get.)
The two ingredients determine what spell would be created. For instance:
1 Glowstone Dust + 1 Redstone Dust + 1 Blank Book = Book of Light
Left Clicking while holding this book would evoke a small ball of light and project it 20 blocks forward, with a light radius of 12, lighting everything around the ball until it reaches its limit or hits a surface / mob.
1 Bucket of Lava + 1 Bow +1 Blank Book = Book of Phoenix Fire
Left clicking while holding this book would launch a fireball (the size of say, a fire charge) straight forward 50 blocks, dealing 3 Hearts damage on impact with a mob. This fireball explodes, not dealing structure damage, but the explosion leaves fire and catches blocks on fire (explosion radius of 3 blocks) and deals 1.5 hearts of damage and catches mobs on fire.
1 Sapling + 5 Bonemeal + 1 Blank Book = Book of the Druid
Left clicking grass while holding this book spawns a small oak tree on the grass.
1 Glass Block + 1 Bow + 1 Blank Book = Book of Shatter Spraying
Holding the left click while holding this book launches a continuous beam of shattered glass, dealing damage to any mob caught in it. The beam has a length of 7 blocks.
1 Obsidian + 1 Bucket of Lava + 1 Blank Book = Book of Fire Nova
Left clicking while holding this book explodes a nova outward of the player's body, 5 blocks long, dealing 3 hearts damage to all entities hit and setting everything hit aflame. This spell also expands on the vertical axis, like a sphere.
1 Diamond Sword + 1 Emerald = Book of Warfare
Right Clicking while holding this book creates three small rotating shields around the player, each with 5 hearts health, that can take damage from projectile attacks and spells.
Left Clicking while holding this book dashes the player forward in an offensive charge (6 second cooldown on this ability) dealing damage to an entity up to 6 blocks away and knocking that entity back 4 - 6 blocks.
Just some random suggestions, but I think if it was done right, spellcrafting and spells could be a wonderful part of the game.
They could add Rubies, Amethysts, and Saphires to make gemmed staves with special powers.
Or make special plants that you aquire wonderful dies from, to be able to write spells instead of using things like emeralds or buckets of lava.
If I knew how to program anything, I would make this a mod myself haha.
I do like the idea! there is alot of "mysticism" in MineCraft but with the only thing the player really having access to is "enchantment" and "potions"... i think Magic as a tool and a weapon would be awesome! I think its nearly a matter of time!
