We all have ideas, and I have many! My goal is everytime I think of something that would improve on the minecraft experance (after taking some time to think it through) to jot it down in some way, on paper, my computer, my arm, ect, and then put it into this topic. Another goal of mine is to have everyone comment of what they think of the ideas and to add or perhaps improve on them in some way. Constructive critism is very welcomed. And another goal of mine is to have the Mojang team look at my topic and say something like “mmm, yes I like so and so idea, I think we will make it into a future update” because that would make my day.
All this being said my ideas may be off kilter in some way, but not on purpose. I have a very abstract way of something, and what I may think is a good idea may very well be a terrible one. Heck, I am only human! So I omitted a few that just didn't make the cut. I try to give some thought before posting them.
All that being said, here goes nothing:
Tree Ents: Sometimes when I play minecraft and I am running through a forest at night, it does feel scary, but not scary enough. Oh sure, theirs always creepers, but those are everywhere rely. How about something that stalks you! Not that would be scary!
I envision a monster that is aggressive at night and neutral during the day. Welcome to the Tree Ent. About 1 in 40 Oak, Spruce and Birch trees are Ents. During the day they simply do not moved unless attacked or are attempted to be chopped down. When they are attacked they will retaliate the player.
During the night, when an ent sees a player it slowly creeps up to the player. When the player looks at the ent, it stops moving and makes it self look like a normal tree. When the ent is no longer in sight, it resumes its stalking. It is capable of moving at a speed that matches the players running on harder difficulties. Just to note, Ents receive more damage from axes than from swords. Also on peaceful, Ents are just regular trees.
Villagers with weapons: Those villagers. They have all these classes useful to them, until they get attacked by zombies. Now I am not sure about you, but I have yet to see a village spawned with an iron golem on the map, except when I make one myself. Its time for these villagers to fight back!
I envision villagers with a guard or warrior class. Some of them will just have an iron or stone sword, some will have leather, iron or gold armor. Think of the as those zombies with armor or weapons, only before they because green and scary.
This class of villager will run from zombies as well, unless they are hit by the zombie, which they will then fight back. They will also fight back when the player strikes them or one of the villager friends within there sight. Oh and they also drop their gear as often as zombies drop theirs, so that way people cant farm them so effectively for it.
Different Enchantments in the nether: This idea may or may not be capable of implementation due to the enchantment books coming in 1.5 (I do not know how exactly they will work) but here goes nothing!
I am not sure why, but the nether being a different world than the over world, it should have its own enchantments. I don't have many ideas for what kind of different ones, but just on the top of my head, axes that due more damage to mobs, longer reach for tools, ect. I think there are a lot good ideas for some new enchantments out there.
Volcanoes: What I would like to see is tall jagged mountains dotted across the landscape with small craters in them filled with lava. Some of them can be the tallest mountain in a mountain biome, some can be In the center of a desert island, who knows! You never know if you settle next to one if it is dormant or active. When one is about to erupt, earth quakes will rock the landscape. These quakes will be stronger the closer you are to the volcano.
Usually these mountains of fire wont burst on just one quake alone. You may get one quake one day, and 2 the next, then 4 the following. The more frequent the quakes, the closer the volcano is to erupting. When they do erupt, lava will flood the cavity inside the mountain and flood over the sides. The lava however wont flow too far as to not rely poss much of a threat to structures, and the volcanoes should be very obvious in how they look so players can avoid building next to them (unless they want to) and not all too common. Perhaps they can tie in with red dragons? To be honest I think this one boarders on the over the top idea.
Make coins out of emeralds: I feel that emeralds as a economical tool has a lot of potential, but still has a LONG way to go. For instance 1 emerald can get you about 10 raw beef from a villager, give or take. But what if you just want 2? So, I have this idea that you can craft emeralds into coins, mush the same way as you can craft gold ingots into nuggets, except they are able to stack to 64. I think a good number for them is 4 emerald coins for 1 emerald. They should also be able to be recrafted back to emeralds with the reverse formula. This would likely make economies on severs more smooth as well.
Abandoned Fortresses: If I had to name 2 games that I enjoyed the most thus far, it would be both Minecraft and The Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind. Both of these games felt somewhat similar to me. I was dropped into an alien world left to explore. There are monsters I never heard of; are they nice or hostile? Who knows! There are lands to be explored! There are caves with ores and creatures that want nothing more than to have you as there next entree. There are Fortresses with something different in each one . . . no wait that one is just Morrowind.
I envision Minecraft to be dotted with abandoned towers, fortresses and random houses of cracked, mossy and other such stone. Floors flooded with water ect, ect. These abandoned structures would be home to zombies, skeletons a few witches and some with just stone golems.
There is however a major problem with this idea . . . Well 2 actually. Mojang and Bethisda don't really like each other *Coughscrollscough*. Also I am quite sure this idea has likely been suggested, likely lots of times. I did do a search, but found things like cities of gold and what not. I am sure theirs quite a few “abandoned fortress” suggestions, I just wanted to get my idea of them out.
I have a lot more ideas, but some are just completely weird and outlandish. Such as random books in chests that contain info on why creepers are scared of cats, or what exactly are enderman. Also Ents fight endermen for a completely complicated reason.
There won't be "villagers with weapons", that's what an Iron Golem is for.
Making coins out of Emeralds? That's extremely stupid and senseless. The Emeralds themselves work fine...
