Cooking in Minecraft is simple, acquire meat, or other material, and then cook or craft.
I want to improve the importance of complicated cooking. So far the only item I think that would be a good example of what to do is cake. Cake is hard to make, but rewards the player for making it more than other foods (It can be placed for others, it doesn't take inventory space, it can give a lot of hunger back).
Potions in my opinion are underrated in Minecraft's community; they grant large bonuses in defense and offense. Cooking should be the same way, except with easier crafting and weaker reward. I feel this would fit into Minecraft perfectly because of the deep but simple feeling to it.
Examples of items are Spiced Steak, Salted Steak, Sugared bread, etc.
Salt would give Resistance 1 and give the Salted prefix.
Pepper would give Strength 1 and give the Spiced prefix.
Sugar would give Haste 1 and give the Sugared prefix/
The effects would last for a short time, like 15 seconds so that they aren't favored over potions for effects.
To gather salt and pepper, you have to gather pepper and mine salt.
Pepper plants will be found in jungles like cocoa beans, they will be rarer though and will stand 3 blocks tall. Salt is found in two forms, by the beach and underground. They will have two textures, a pure salt by the beach and an ore texture underground. Salt will be about the same rarity as gold, except will be in in levels 0-48 instead of lower levels. Harvesting these will drop 1-5 salt.
Support. I think there should be a chance to burn, undercook, or overcook the food to. Also bread must be improved. I think if you craft wheat with flint you get flour (consumes flint) , then craft it with a bucket of water to get dough, then cook the dough to get bread. Then you could butter the bread.
I have a mod with salt and pepper and I love this idea I might use it potentially. If so credit will be givenAlso in the next update it adds 20 new pies with different combinations of fruits and cinnamon/sugar and each thing changes the outcome as far as potion effects.
Current minecraft food is awefully boring and simple to make. I shudder whenever I think about how the food was cooked. Just sorta stuck it in some random furnace.
Rather than an ore, I think salt should be found in chests in dungeons, villages, etc. And there should also be some way to make salt as well, because it just doesn't make sense as an ore honestly.
The only problem i have with this is that the salt/pepper/sugar effects seem a bit low level, maybe 1 min of effect, rather than 15 seconds? Otherwise Support
i like the idea but i don't like the idea of making the already easy/simple recipes like bread harder to do but maybe they can do something with eggs or what would be cool is if they some how gave you the ability to add recipes on the main menu like texture packs but the recipe you add will have randomly generated hunger that u gain and maybe 5 in 100 chance is like golden apples and u cant delete recipes so u wont add a ton of dumb ones so u can always get the perfect one. maybe you can delete it but it will be in the the %appdata% folder and you can make the pic of it oh and you could take 2 new or old recipes to make a better recipe but any way its a great idea

maybe u can get salt tanks by the ocean and take buckets of water from the ocean tank and put the ocean water bucket it in the furnace or instead of furnace its strainer or something idk and get salt from that and you could also get salt from salt ore and thats how you make salt tank and you get pepper from poppy plant in a village or dungeon chest
one thing ive always thought about is the egg,not enough uses for but there is one im sure everyone is thinking about:Eggs or Scrambled Eggs, you cook and egg in a furnace you get Normal Eggs (you know the ones that are white on the outside and yellow on the inside) then, you put the Eggs on a crafting table and you get Scrambled Eggs!!! Yayyyyyyy
