Hello everyone, I've come up with an idea that I believe Minecraft could really use. As we all know, the animations in Minecraft are next to nonexistant, and I think it would be really cool if some new animations were added to add a bit of a new feel. I also want to address another idea that I think would be a wonderful addition to Hardcore Mode. I know this probobly won't appeal to everyone, but try to stay open minded about what I'm about to say.
Things to add:
Joints to players and mobs - As we've all seen, the players and mobs of minecraft seem a bit too stiff. If they were given joints to their arms and legs, a field of realism would be added. If, instead of Steve swinging his entire rectangular arm, he had a joint halfway down his arm that would bend. The rest of his arm would now move in coordination with that joint. Walking would also benefit by adding a bendable knee.
Hair - One of the things I'd really like to see (and I'm sure other's do too) would be hair. What if you could actually add a layer of hair to your character's face, similar to the hat, but it wouldn't have the gap showing between the face and layer. A hat could still be textured over the hair.
Mob Invasions - For players that want an even harder Hardcore Mode, this idea is for you. After 20 Minecraft day/night cycles, during every full moon, a glowing cave would open from somewhere within 100 blocks of you, and mobs would stream out and be attracted to your position. You would not be able to use a bed during this night, forcing you to survive the onslaught of angry mobs pounding on your door. After 5 minutes, a dragon would fly out of the cave, and the only way to end the invasion would be to kill the dragon. The dragon wouldn't be an Ender Dragon, of course, but more like a sub-dragon. It would still be hard to kill, but easier than the Ender Dragon in order to keep the game in balance.
Keep in mind, these are just my thoughts and ideas about things I would love to see added to this game, but I want to know if the community would like it. Leave your comments and suggestions as to how this could be even better below, and I'll stay open minded about what you have to say. I don't want to read comments that say things like "this is stupid" without giving a reason as to why, though.
I actually like the stiffness. It helps make MineCraft unique and it adds style.
I support the hair part. It sounds reasonable.
Parts of the mob invasion idea are sketchy, but it has potential, and I support the concept at least.

Yes, I was debating about the stiffness, but I realized that a lot of the reason why Minecraft animations are so interesting is that in the animations, the characters have joints, but we don't get this level of realism in game. I'm glad you support the hair. What do you think could be improved upon with the mob invasion? I'm completely open to suggestions, as I would love to get the heart of the community into this.

I don't think that MineCraft should have that extra realism though. It's just an opinion though. No worries.
I am glad I support the hair as well.
Hmmm. . . I liked the concept of invasions, but the glowing cave showing up out of nowhere was what set me off. It was all kind of random to me.
I like the concept of the full moon. Maybe on full moons more monsters could spawn more than normal. They would spawn in larger groups and work together in an invasion like fashion-ish thing.
There is still a slight chance that Red Dragons could still be implemented, so maybe full moons would be the one night that they leave their cave.
My main concern was that it would be like one of those Bloons games. Like the turret defence.

I hope that helps.
Ah yes, that helped a lot. Yeah, the cave appearing out of nowhere does seem a bit strange now that I think of it. I think that the mobs need an epic way to come out though. Maybe a mega cave that's always there, but the spawn rate of monsters is quadrupled inside.
I understand your concern for the joints, and I'm happy that you voiced an honest opinion about it. If more people come, we'll see what the rest of the community has to say about these things.

I don't like the joints because the new adjustment would be awkward for most minecrafters. It should stay.
Hair can already (kinda) be done by editing the head overlay texture. Not much need if we can do that.
I like mob invasions. Sound interesting and a good way to implement dragons, though it should be more like 15 nights.
I see the joints as a welcome adjustment, but to each his own. Maybe it could be a new option: "Joints/No Joints"
I'd like a way to make actual hair without using the hat system. This way, you could have the hair you want for your player stick out a bit from his face, and still wear the hat.
I almost put down 15 nights, but some players may not be ready in time for an occassion like this. Glad you like this idea!

You can't say something's optional as a reason to add it. The true question is whether people would like the idea or not. As for hair, adding different ways of using a model sounds complicated opposed to what we have now.

I'm saying that it would be a worthy addition for those players that would enjoy a new look to the player, but if the player doesn't want them, all they have to do is toggle them off, simple as that. I never said that making it optional is a reason to add it, I just gave a suggestion, just like the section of the forums we're in. It's similar to the view bobbing option. Not every player likes it, so those who don't like it turn it off.
I've been thinking more about the hair, and I think that you could have 2 options. You could choose from a pre-existing hair style (from bald to whatever) or you could make your own hair. I very much dislike the look of hair when you try to use the hat format. It just floats when you texture it in. It would look nicer if it had depth and doesn't just float above the player's head.

Yep! Youtube is a good friend! I like what all the animators were doing with the hair, and I thought the actual Minecraft could use something like it.
