beacons can be powered by pyrimids of pretty much any rare element diamond gold iron. so why was lapis omitted it isn't like it is usefull for anything else and this might finally give it some real value.

Not sure how i feel about this. I do think that beacon effect power/duration should be influenced by the material of pyramid. Lapis being the worst, then iron, then gold, then diamond, then emerald.

actually iron should be worst as lapis or higher on the rarity list.

I'm not against giving an extra use to lapis, but having a block of dyes power a beacon as opposed to the other metals/minerals doesn't really land, even with lapis being rarer than iron.
This is actually a good idea. Instead of wasting all our precious resources that we actually use, we could use lapis instead. I only rarely use it for building.

yeah i guess you're right:
3.75 lapis lazuli ore per chunk, each drops 4-7, so 5.5*3.75=20.675 lapis lazuli per chunk.
84 iron ore per chunk, each drops one, coal is essentially infinite.
