Hey all, Obdurator here. Here is the mob that would correspond with my new idea for polymorphic tools (though the mob isn't necessarily dependent on the other idea).
Overview
A polymorph would be a new mob designed specifically to blend with stone blocks, similar to silverfish. However, the time it takes to break the block would not be affected by the mob's presence. Polymorphs would be very rare as well, only appearing in block levels 20 and under, and only in 1 out of every 5-10 thousand stone blocks. Upon breaking the block, the polymorph would be released.
Appearance
Polymorphs have the same shape as a player, yet they remain the same texture and color as a piece of stone. They do have eyes though. Their eyes are a blood red, and the same shape as Steve's eyes. They will not appear holding whatever item the player is when the player breaks the block.
Combat
Polymorphs aren't your average mamby pamby mob. In fact, they're rather special. They're special because they instantly take the armor and damage statistics of the player who broke the block, and form into a rough player shape. This means that if you're in diamond armor with a diamond pick, they'll have the same defense as the diamond armor and the same damage as the diamond pick. Polymorphs also have the same amount of hearts as you, so fighting one is similar to fighting another player. To make matters more interesting, they move slightly faster than the player's sprint, meaning that there is no way to outrun them.
Drops
A polymorph, when killed, will drop 4 experience and 0-2 polymorph gels. (See Polymorph Tools post). Other than this, they have the rare chance to drop any piece of iron armor with full durability.
That's all I got for now. Feel free to post suggestions or questions!
I already worry about silver fish, i don't need these things killing me all the time!
Relax, these only appear every 1 out of 10,000 blocks under the block level 20.The chances of you running into one while mining is minimal. I'd say that throughout the whole course of a survival map, you'd run into 5 or 6 at most. Besides, they're only as strong as you are when you break the block.
