Hey all. Here is my latest idea. I'm sure that some of you saw the title and thought to yourself, "What the heck is this?" Well, let me explain.
The polymorphic tool can be shifted into any tool that the player desires. By shift+right-clicking (or some such button/mouse control) the player can choose any kind of tool and watch as the polymorph rod becomes it. This includes:
-Pickaxe
-Shovel
-Axe
-Sword
-Shears
-Fishing Rod
-Flint and Steel
The tool you have selected can then become any other, allowing the player to always have the tool they need. The polymorph tools would have the same statistics as iron in damage and durability (excepting the shears, fishing rod, and flint and steel) with each tool sharing the polymorph tool's overall durability. To sum it up, the polymorph tool would be the Swiss Army knife of Minecraft!
Now you may be wondering, how can I craft such a marvelous thing? The answer is simple, but requires a bit of detail. Try and follow me here as I get through this.
I think it would be fitting if we started from the base of the crafting procedure. Polymorph ore (if you want to call it that) is a semi-rare ore found in the lower regions of the nether as a single block alone. Each block, when mined with an iron pick or better, drops one block of polymorph gel. Polymorph gel in turn becomes polymorph rods by placing 3 of the gels in a straight line down a crafting table like so:
/\
/\ = /
/\
-/\ is polymorphic gel
- / is polymorphic rod
Upon creation of a polymorphic rod, all the player needs to do is surround it with iron ingots on a crafting table. This will create the polymorphic tool. From there on, you have it! There is another way to get polymorphic gel though, and that's by killing Polymorphs: (http://www.minecraft...872-polymorphs/).
Anyways guys, that's my idea in a nutshell. I'm sorry if any part seems confusing. Feel free to post any critiques and/or questions you have!
A little bit overpowered, I think, but a well explained idea.
Hm, now that I see it, I think I may have made it a little too easy to obtain the necessary ingredients for the Polymorph rod. I'll think about a few ways on how to make it harder. Any thoughts on this?
Sidenotes:
-Polymorph tools can also become bows and hoes. (Sorry for forgetting that).
-If you're more of a visual person, think of polymorph gel as grey slimeballs, and of polymorph rods as grey blaze rods.
As I said near the top of the post, you could shift+right click while holding the tool in your hand. I realize that this doesn't really work though, so I'm thinking that there may be some kind of button for it, or you could right click it while in your inventory screen.
