so i was looking at the new 1.5 "more redstone" update news, and got a good idea; redstone "hot spots". these would occupy one block, and would send out a redstone signal, just like torches, only wirelessly. any redstone wire placed within a certain range from the hotspot would immediately be powered. this also means that you wouldn't even need r-stone wire; stuff like pistons would automatically be powered. you could increase the range by right clicking on the hot spot while holding redstone, and each time you would lose 1 redstone. do this 10 times, and the range is increased. of course, it wouldn't power doors; they'd always be open. you could also turn the hot spot on and off by right clicking (without holding redstone). you could therefore have one of these hotspots for your entire house, assuming it isn't some huge skyscraper, and not have to use wiring! you would still need the redstone to increase the range, and presumably in it's construction, but other than that, it would be a great substitute i think. anyways, this idea is open to the community as always, so talk about it and it may get better!
I don't support this for several reasons:
1) This would break circuitry
2) Holds no circuit value at all (Can't do anything new with it)
3) Are you that lazy? Can't place torches or levers?
4) Potentially can grief other people's circuits

1) This would break circuitry
No, if this changed the mechanics of redstone, then it would break it.
2) Holds no circuit value at all (Can't do anything new with it)
Have you not seen some of the things people have made? If it's new, someone will manage to utilize it.
3) Are you that lazy? Can't place torches or levers?
It could be used for many things, from better concealment to simply better designs. Also, by that logic, why have torches? Just use levers.
4) Potentially can grief other people's circuits.
Many things can be used to grief. Might as well remove lava, and water, and swords, and potions. See what I mean?
It wouldn't be very useful unless it could be moved around. Otherwise you could more easily place a torch or lever and link a redstone current to said object. As for the wireless pistons, it's a step in the right direction, but it's still not so useful, it might allow you to expand your base by three or four blocks in a good scenario.

Don't friggin' post inside the quote! Too lazy to copy and paste.
1) It would break it because putting it inside a circuit would simply turn everything on... not all that useful.
2) " "
3) I suppose concealment is just about the best use for this. And, you use torches for gate logic. Can't use levers for that.
4) All of those are commonly disabled (except swords/potions, how are those griefage?) on servers. With these, people would easily break circuits if the owner chose to not block hotspots outright.
Perhaps I was too vague in my first post.

I would love it if you checked out my "about me" page on my profile and looked at my threads I'm always happy to see new posters.
I posted the same thing about him and I got an infraction...
Anyway, Interesting Idea, but must be able to turn on and off with a switch, pressure plate, or detector rail. Otherwise it would be a pain. You should be able to activate it as easily as anything else.
