I think that a few written books should be added to the game giving background on the world of Minecraft. How did Zombie Pigmen get the way they are? Why are all the mineshafts abandoned? What is the purpose of the Stronghold? Who lived there? What did they do? All of these would add a sense of adventure to minecraft.
They could be all called "Books of Steve" for example each with a different number for the volume. (I need a better name) 1-5 or so with a different story in each one. They would simply be pre-written books you find. Some examples: http://imgur.com/2JodY
I think the idea is good, but even though this doesn't hurt gameplay, it can still ruin some game integrity for some players. For example, imagine witnessing a character in a game or movie that goes unseen or masked for a long time, but then finally a face is revealed - that revealed face disappoints you in the end because the face might not have looked the way you imagined or wanted it, so you wish the character stayed masked instead.
That can be the same with Minecraft. For so long us players made up our own experiences, and it might be a little late now to assign permanent origins to things, because that yanks away our made up experiences and theories if the game was all "THIS is where this mob comes from. No other explanations." For Minecraft, mystery > definite.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.
I just really wanted to see people's responses. I am not really that partial to it. But i do want to know about the Steves... why are we (as the player) the only ones. I enjoy the mystery of everything else though.
As Zippy said, the idea itself is good, butit may ruin the outlook of players. I for one know I have my Minecraftian beliefs set, and these solving "Minecraftian Mysteries" may not only disrut some player's outlooks, but it may just ruin the game for them. Stories may work, but only if it doesn't actually have anything to do with the origins of things in Minecraft.

My avatar-Madison Gotha. She knows various weapons, she's a mage/sage, and is somewhat immortal. Madison has the capability of taming and communicating monsters, a genetic trait passed down by her father. 26 physically, 1400-something mentally, and a Lofty Peakian/Zenithian mix. Doesn't really like being called an elf and hates being called human..
I might be Moderator, but don't bother treating me too special. And don't make tons of Ban Hammer jokes, please. Also, I'm an Off-Topic only Mod. Don't ask me to lock a thread or something if it's not in the off-topic

Books can be biased. Rather than explaining it as an encyclopedia, explain it as another theory. You have your own theory, the unknow writer has his. Simple.

I know some of you may say "This is dumb" but would it really kill you if they were ever added. They wouldn't change your gameplay at all.
Gameplay, in your terms (get material), isn't everything.
I would love it if you checked out my "about me" page on my profile and looked at my threads
I'm always happy to see new posters.
