Hey everyone,
Today I suddenly thought that minecraft should have keys for doors and chests. I mean why not? Seems simple enough a key that can lock the door of your house or chest. Keeping out unwanted mobs and players when online.
So come on people MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
thnx, bye
I've wanted something like this for a while, but elaborate please! I'm sure this already exists somewhere, but make some additions to this post so we can actually comment!
Ok let me 'elaborate' a chest could come with a unique key so you could lock or unlock therefore keeping out unwanted players. I'd like to know your guys thoughts on the idea
I think it is an overused idea that won’t catch on, but for conversation’s sake you should have to take a blank key and a blank chest/door and mix them in the crafting table to get a locked chest/door, and when you place it you will be holding the key with a specified number between 1 and 1,000,000. key crafting- 5 diamonds. Actually now that I think about it the ender chest already serves this purpose, doesn’t it?

Don’t quote me. And Don’t quote me on not wanting to be quoted either.

I've seen something like this before, and I'm gonna tell you what I told the last guy, but diffirent, almost complety diffirent. Actually, I'll just tell you something.
Keys, keys, keys. Before I discuss the issues with the item itself, you didn't give any crafting. Do you expect it to MAGICALLY appear before our very eyes? Also, what about locks? Without those, you could just lock things randomly. Now the issues with the item itself. Imagine you just finished your house, and you decide to get more wood for tools. Then, all of the sudden, some random troll walks by, slaps a lock on your door, and walks away. It's now nighttime, and as you approach your house, a creeper appears! Luckily, you have enough time to open your door and go inside. That is, if it wasn't locked.
New scenario, your walkking around in the mines, going to your secret hideout made out of obsidian, and locked with a key. All of the sudden, a zombie pushes you into lava, burning your key, diamond pickaxe, and other various neccesary items. Your screwed.
See what I mean? Having monsters break in is part of the minecraft expirence. Plus, you can just lock it with redstone if you want, I don't care. Bottom line is; Keys. Are. Pointless. Period.
