This has probably been suggested millions of times before. However, search yields lots of irrelevant things in addition to the non-detailed suggestions similar to this. It also may seem like a wishlist, yet this is all part of Nether Villages. Mods, feel free to lock this if needed.
As we all know by now, 1.3 gave us Desert Villages, bringing not-yet-fulfilled hope for all kinds of new village types for some different biomes. (Mushroom village, anyone?) However, this is for the Nether...
Nether Villages! (with depth)
Oh yeah, and Pigmen!
Nether Villages would generate with Nether Brick and Netherrack, or perhaps with some new blocks so they're not so hideous... In addition, all villages would now generate with the new corner Stairs to eliminate the ugliness that creates an "outdated" feel. They would generate with probably Gravel roads, but maybe Soul Sand if the Pigmen and their Zombie counterparts are immune.
Now for Pigmen, the weird pig-people who were never developed more than a texture file in the mobs folder. These would spawn in these villages, of course, behaving similar to Villagers, and would, for ridiculously expensive prices involving either Emeralds or the mysterious planned Nether ore, trade for some Nether products. This would be random for each Pigman, from Netherrack to Ghast Tears. There would also be no professions. Each one would carry a Gold Sword, and would attack Zombie Pigmen. They drop Gold Nuggets, Ingots, or Swords at the same frequency of Zombie Pigmen, and will sometimes spawn with one or two pieces of Gold Armor, dropping that as rarely as Zombies or Skeletons.
Zombie Pigmen would be hostile to Pigmen, but because of the Pigmen's defenses it's a 50-50 chance which one survives. They can also break down the doors, which would either be Wooden, or a new Netherrack Door. They also have a 50% chance to infect a Pigman on Easy, and a 100% chance on Normal and Hard. Zombie Pigmen made from normal or baby Pigmen would be incurable, and indistinguishable from regular Pigmen.
Pigmen would repopulate by breeding automatically, and would have higher breeding criteria than normal Villagers, but will stop at the right time to avoid overpopulation. Baby Pigmen would be infectable, like Baby Villagers, but would also be incurable. The bug with the secret Baby Zombie Pigmen not having the skin on their head would be fixed, of course.
Now for the main defense: Lava Golems! (If this is too wishlisty I may remove this...) These special Golems would not be buildable, and would possibly have Pigman-like heads instead of the Villager-like heads of the Iron Golems. They would always spawn at least once in a Nether Village no matter what. These guys would be skinned with non-animated lava, and would attack any hostile mob just like Iron Golems by flinging them up, but would also do a lot of melee damage. Just walking into one in survival would be just like Lava, so don't hit one! Despite the fact that you can't build them, a Creative-only (of course) Spawn Egg might be added. Being made of lava, these guys won't take fire damage, but might take fall damage.
Lava Golems would also spawn rarely with different combinations of big Chain Armor, and these ones would always drop the armor they have. Very rarely, it would of course be enchanted.
To aid in the repopulation, Villages would rarely generate a Monster Spawner in a building utilizing the new Spawner properties. This would very slowly spawn new Pigmen, but only one per spawn. The maximum distance from the spawner you can be before it stops is the distance until mobs start idling. (Forgot the exact distance...)
Now, this would be a neat little easter egg for map-makers, or Creative players who are bored. Regular Zombies would infect Pigmen, turning them into Zombie Pigmen, and Zombie Pigmen can infect Villagers, turning them into Zombie Villagers. The secret unspawnable "Zombie Pigman Villager" (go to about 2:55 on ) would be fixed to look like a Zombie Pigman with a Villager-y head, purely for map makers.
Like, comment, subscribe. As I said, pictures coming soon. Also as I said, this isn't meant to be a wishlist. It's just details on how the village would be "Nethered."
I think the way zombie pigmen attack pigmen is far to hard. Zombie pigmen spawn like crazy in the nether, you would really have no chance of saving the villagers.

I rather like that you've drawn a parallel between overworld villages and your nether ones.
I spend a lot of time in the nether and this creates a whole new reason to be there and it makes cities there more profitable. Plus, I think we can all agree that the nether needs more content.
Overall, I agree with your proposal, but pigmen don't fit very well with the setting.

"If you're not prepared to be wrong, you will never come up with anything original." -Ken Robinson
I could ditch Pigmen and make it Nether Villagers or something. Pigmen being the villagers was just to make Zombie Pigmen have any context whatsoever in vanilla.
I agree that zombie pigmen being hostile to whatever mob will be in your village means there's no chance your village will survive long enough for you to find it. If hostile mobs in the nether are hostile to your villager then it's not a big deal, they will just need protecting... but zombie pigmen are just -too- prolific for a mob they are auto hostile at to survive.
I like this idea overall, but I would like you to have to give the pimento ores and stuff do that they make Their own weapons, and I think that the incureable infections and the massively high chance of infection would make it almost impossible to support a village.
