I don't think there's enough ores in Minecraft. We have coal, iron, gold, emerald, diamond, lapis lazuil, and redstone. I think there should be another ore called topaz, which will appear under mountains at level 24.
Here's more. If you find topaz, they will randomly appear with these colors: Colorless (hidden topaz), blue, brown, orange, gray, yellow, green, pink and reddish pink.
You can also make tools, armor, and blocks with topaz.
ITEM STUFF
Topaz Tool Durability: Stronger than iron but weaker than diamond.
Topaz Armor Durability: 9 1/2 armor chestplates
Topaz Ore Minimum Pickaxe: Iron

I'm certain it was said that there wont be new armor tiers... Nevertheless, multiple different colored ores. Also, Minecraft will gaining a new Nether ore soon, so I don't think it fair to say there aren't enough ores.

Seriously, why do people keep using the "we need more ores because we don't have enough" argument? We can make do and get by with what we have just fine. Having a small amount of something isn't always a bad thing. Didn't someone from mojang state that no new tools/armor will come out?
If you look at the ores we have now, they have uses outside of just tools and armor, while your topaz is nothing more than an object to make extra tools and armor. No support.
Yea, to be honest, I think topaz would be useless, and we don't need any new armor/tool types. And multiple colours? That's kind of silly. I understand you want wool in gem form, but it probably won't happen.
Are you suggesting we give Minecraft all of Terraria's ores? Because Terraria has a crapton of ores and topaz is one of them.

This signature has absolutely no point at all. And then it has a point to inform you that it has no point, but it has no point because it really doesn't have a point, but it has a point because it tells you it has no point... and ah, screw this.
People are constantly suggesting this. Please keep all your misc additional weapon/armor/ore ideas inside existing threads for your idea, or inside the small suggestions thread. The whole concept of additional weapons/armor/ores is extremely oversuggested.

They're like emeralds and diamonds.
Crystals mainly.
