2. Add a hostile mob in the ocean
There's not much fun to do in the ocean. Add sharks, crocodiles maybe? There needs to be something more than just squids. You should probably not have them attack you if you are in a boat though. That would just ruin things.
3. Make squids breed-able and spawn-able
A good way to make this effect is adding a spawn egg, and having some plant to use to breed squids. there's no use for grass besides decoration. Maybe use it as a fish feeder. another possibility would to add seaweed underwater, which would be PERFECT for looks in underwater generation.
4. Add sunken ships
It would be fun to add a lost treasure. Maybe have sharks(if added) guard it. The treasure could include gold, diamonds, and iron.

Uh... This isnt a wishlist because it is all related to the same topic of ocean content. And don't tell people to learn from you... You arent a teacher...

Really great suggestions, OP. Personally, I have mixed feelings about the hostile water mob. On one hand, oceans are too safe. But on the other, when I spawn on a little island in the middle of a vast ocean, I don't want a shark chasing me as I swim a gazillion blocks to shore, lol.

While I tend to agree with you, the people in charge unfortunately do not. Plus, I remember a few months ago when the first 3 pages were 90% volcano related suggestions, and that was kind of annoying.
I like the idea of sponges being generated naturally, but I believe they should have some of their water absorbing properties restored. Instead of instantly deleting a 5x5 cube of water, they should have a small chance each game tick to "absorb" nearby water sources. Of course, this would mean it would be difficult to have them spawn underwater.
I agree with a new underwater mob, and generated shipwrecks have been suggested numerous times.
Good ideas, but it's practically useless since you can't breathe underwater for long. We would need to also include some way of crafting a mask or snorkel of some sort that would allow us to say underwater for longer.
Perhaps underwater temples would be nice as well, something like a small Atlantis, and the room would be like a large air pocket. However, I do think shipwrecks would be much more creative. The only downside would be as to how it would be constructed.
Ilike it all but the whole squid thing, they are just shy of useless and there is already way to many of them. I especially like the sunken ship idea. ^-^
