Iron golems despite meaning well, usually don't get the job done in terms of protection unless you have a ton which can be costly, plus, they have a nasty habit of getting lost. So to make them more efficient, I propose the ability to give your iron golems defense tactics. When you build an iron golem, (as long as it is yours) you can right click him and a gui comes up labeled "tactics". The available tactics are
-protect (the iron golem attacks anything that hits it or any hostile mobs, this is the default)
-guard (iron golem will attack anyone who breaks blocks)
-berserk (iron golem will attack any hostile mobs or players excluding its creator)
There are also two more seperate settings to apply to the golem about its movement.
-wander (iron golem wanders the area, this is the default)
-stay (iron golem stands guard, if it sees a target described by its tactics, it will attack them and return to its post whether it can see its post or not)
With these few simple settings, players can do all sorts of things with iron golems. What does everyone else think about this idea?
I like this idea; golems could definitely use more effectiveness. Do we really need another GUI though? What if lots of iron golems can arrange themselves into a balanced group of wanderers, defenders, etc.?
I agree that golems are pretty ineffective, though, especially against players. What if they are immune to arrows/potions and occasionally get bursts of speed? That would give players a much harder time killing them in melee.
Finally, I looked through the various 'tactics' you came up with, and I think they're perfect. Even if new mobs were added to use these behaviors, it would be great!
