Hello again, for my second topic I'd like to pose something that would drastically change the atmosphere of Minecraft, improving the mood of any environment you'd be in, and is something that just makes sense.
My Thesis:
I'm posing to change the color of the emitted light of a torch to something warmer, more like, well a torch.
As of now the color that closely matches what I'm looking for is that of a lit furnace (though I'd like to see more of a deeper, richer orange/yellow). For those of you that say there isn't a big difference, THERE IS.
The hue of the light emitted from a torch is almost neutral, nearly white, and it adds no atmosphere which leaves you relying on your texture pack to make up for the colors and what the light couldn't spark (hardy har).
==--==--==--==--==-- ==--==--==--==--==-- ==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--== Personal Anecdote: If a torch actually looked like fire, then I wouldn't be bringing this up.
There have been many times where I'd risk having hostile mobs spawn because I don't want to put up many torches (again, because of the color that is emitted).
==--==--==--==--==-- ==--==--==--==--==-- ==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==
And for all of you that want it brief and intense, here's a section for you:
TL;DR: All I'm asking is that the hue and color of the light emitted from a torch is altered to something more fitting of an open flame. The white light given off doesn't add anything to any environment, whether it be a home,village, cave, ravine, castle, fort, etc. I'll go as far as to say that the light given off actually takes away from the atmosphere of this game.
And please don't give me that crap of, "It's not a big deal, go make a mod or something", because I'll be damned if this isn't a suggestions forum.
Thank you, and may the force be with you (God, George Lucas.. Why did you do it).
Current
The difference is fairly evident. I would support this idea but there's one aspect I do not like. By colouring light, you're effectively making torches a lot less effective as it would be harder to see. If you compare old to current, you can see that it is a bit easier to see with the white lighting. Because adding colouration won't retain brightness, it will become dimmer and less effective.
No support. Yes torches look like open flame in default. Not all of us use default. How annoying would it be to those who use techno or space themes if suddenly their wall mounted lights all pretty and bright put out orange light? You've already admitted that you can use texture packs to make atmosphere... Maybe not everyone wants minecraft to be spooky... or dimly lit... or have orange colored lights. Maybe some of us want bright candy colored worlds... Unfortunately you're really not taking into account how other people might play the game.
At least allow redstone torches to emit a red light. They are only used for lighting in dim (scary) areas. And I think that reder lighting would add to the scariness effect.
