Everyone knows Minecraft is a great simulation, virtual world where and player can either live and survive the world or just hop right in and start creating. But not everything in Minecraft fits the definition. In real life, you could leave some types of metal in water for a long time and it would start to rust. This would add a constant challenge to the player making him/her have to check and maintain their walls or iron bars. If this were real, water would obviously flow through iron bars or fences, some of us have to admit that we have tried to make a ditch for water to flow through but make it look cool with bars there. We couldn't do it because the water wouldn't flow through the bars, therefore disappointing many players. Wood if under water for too long would eventually rot also giving the player a challenge. I would hope that at least some people out there agree with me. Thanks for your time!
This signature has absolutely no point at all. And then it has a point to inform you that it has no point, but it has no point because it really doesn't have a point, but it has a point because it tells you it has no point... and ah, screw this.
Everyone knows Minecraft is a great simulation, virtual world where and player can either live and survive the world or just hop right in and start creating. But not everything in Minecraft fits the definition. Actually, everything in Minecraft does. Every part of Minecraft is a simulation and virtual world. Derp.
In real life, you could leave some types of metal in water for a long time and it would start to rust. Incorrect. H2O doesn't oxidize metals, oxygen does. Therefore, iron should rust everywhere.
This would add a constant challenge to the player making him/her have to check and maintain their walls or iron bars. Rusting is a long process. Iron bars could take decades if not centuries to rust to the point of breaking. 1 meter thick iron blocks? That's even more resistant, since it has a smaller surface area to volume ratio.
If this were real, water would obviously flow through iron bars or fences, Already suggested. All the time. Everyone wants this.

Wood if under water for too long would eventually rot also giving the player a challenge. Submerged wood doesn't actually rot that fast. It takes water damage, but rot is a different thing entirely.

Bzzzzzt- There's your first mistake. Never add realism to the game if it bogs down any form of fun/balanced gameplay. Only add realism when it doesn't hurt anything else. Worrying about metal blocks touching water doesn't add anything but annoyance.

A "constant challenge"? That's not what a challenge is... Making metal blocks rust over time does not add a challenge of any kind, because it just puts a pointless limit on the placement of metal blocks and adds a very unneeded dent on block placement.

Ugh. Dude, no. Pointless limits =/= challenge. You may as well add a "bathroom bar" and "craftable toilets". A challenge is something that yields something positive after performing a difficulty-varying task. Worrying about our blocks rusting or rotting is basically "Nope. Wood and metal blocks deteriorate when touching this water. You're not gonna be able to build this the way you want. Tough luck."

I would love it if you checked out my "about me" page on my profile and looked at my threads
I'm always happy to see new posters.
Go to the Realism part.
Partial support from me for the water-through-iron-bars part though.
I have given my opinion.
Minecraft I believe is all for designs and building.
If I can't build a pool I want with the blocks I wish.
It would really be a pain.
Lava burning is already a pain.
