I thought of an idea today, which is really simple, but really easy: Fuses! Fire is very wild, but with fuses, it's more well controlled. Fuses would have their own block (likely made of string or wool). While thinking of this idea, i thought of another idea: Planting other dusts! We can only plant redstone right now, but wouldn't you like to plant gunpowder, glowstone, and sugar? Here's my ideas for uses with them:
Gunpowder: Lead a fuse up to it, and boom! Like TNT, but weaker and instant. (of course you can still lead a fuse up to tnt)
Glowstone: Self Explanatory, gives off a little light, and can be planted on a floor.
Sugar: This one took some thinking. But since we have dragons identical villagers, why not. Did you know monsters like sugar? Need I say more?
This is an interesting idea. In the order they came-
Fuses-There's two options here. We already have redstone, so fuses would have to have some other use as well. I'd suggest making it a combination of gunpowder and string, you place it on the ground like a tripwire. It would burn at a rate faster than most other things, but be safe unless you stepped on it. Unless you were triggering tnt in a sea of redstone wires you didn't want to mess with, this probably wouldn't be used that much. It should deal fire damage when stepped on.
Glowstone, I can't see anyone using much. Torches, redstone torches, lamps, glowstone blocks, Sunlight, even open flames are used for light. I once saw a nether portal being used for a light source. i don't think we need another one right now.
Sugar is an interesting one. Almost all animals like sugar, perhaps it could be like redstone, where if you place it, mobs will slowly follow it along the ground and eat at it? Consuming the sugar, but following a path in the process?

I like the simpler idea of just laying gunpowder like redstone and using the gunpowder as a fuse.
Light the gunpowder trail with redstone or flint&steel. The first patch fizzles and emits light for about half a second (for example) then goes out and at the same time, it ignites certain blocks next to it (gunpowder, TNT or fireworks). If it ignites gunpowder, the process repeats until there is no more gunpowder to burn (or its removed, perhaps by an explosion). Burning gunpowder should be able to ignite gunpowder one block higher or lower than the burning patch, the way redstone signals can go up or down one block at a time.
Gunpowder should not act like redstone, so it can't send a signal back to redstone and can only ignite the block types I mentioned.

Thoughts?

Seems like some interesting ideas.
