I've recently watched videos on youtube about the mount and bayonet event and I really enjoyed the idea that was presented. Minecraft should find ways to add more combat features (think about the weapon mods) so that players interested in waging war against eachother can be more satisfied with gameplay. To all those who misunderstand the idea, adding such features would only promote the idea of minecraft being a game made to satisfy the pleasure of its player.
So your suggestion is 'more weapons and armour'? I'd tell you to search first, but I'm not sure there's even a suggestion here to search for.

"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
I've seen videos on youtube about something called the mount and bayonet event. The kid talking wouldnt shut up but the way he was playing looked pretty fun. I think minecraft should find ways to adding more weapons and artillery (think tank mods) so players interested in waging war against eachother can be more satisfied and not resort to downloading games like castle miner Z that exploit this simple idea.
No modern weapons or artillery, does not fit with the theme of Minecraft.
Good to know that weapons do not fit the theme of Minecraft.
Yep. Then again, I think he meant MODERN weapons. Minecraft could use more weapons, or atleast better ways to USE weapons, like in Mount and Blade, but nothing MODERN. No guns, no artillery, no lightsabers, no tanks, no nuclear warheads. None of that kind of thing.
Yeah. I'd quite like to see battle axes, spears and daggers. Minecraft need a better variety of tools and weapons to make it more fun exploring crafting recipes. I mean, thats one of the points of Minecraft
But not when the only use for them is to look different from a sword. Do you understand what a battleaxe is? It's a large axe. Why not just make axes deal damage to mobs? Spears are even more of a problem, and I've yet to see someone describe them as something other than retextured swords, same with daggers.
As for the original idea, I have to tell you that if your combat seems lacking, it's only because you're making it so; use some strategy, like in a PvP map use surrounding obstacles to sneak attack your opponent, or to escape from danger. As long as you're only playing the spam-to-win strategy, new weapons do nothing but spam with a different shape.

So, spears.. Longer range(Say, you can hit people from 3 or 4 blocks away) and less damage, but more armour pierce.(Pointy end can sneak through armour) Battleaxes are less-spammable, deal more damage, but have a tad less armor pierce(No pointy end to fit through holes in armour) Daggers should give less damage, have less range, but deal double damage if you hit someone from behind while sneaking. By better ways to use weapons, I meant for one thing having a better block to make it actually useful to use occasionally, and having directional attacks and directional block, controlled by mouse movemet. Someone blocks up and you hit up, so you deal no damage. Someone blocks down but you hit up again. Since he was blocking down you hit.
How isn't minecraft made for 'modern' weapons? it has TNT, powered rails, pistons, beacons, clocks.. etc
Tell me how a flintlock pistol or a knife working with Team Fortress 2's logic? 1 heart damage on hit, 3 on succesful backstab.
just throwing in some ideas
Backstab idea is interesting, but I think that presently stealth in servers isn't really an option unless you have a potion of invisibility or crouch for days to hide your nametag.

I say that spears should have a "sweet spot" and any closer than that sweet spot they do less damage and don't pierce armor. Also a block that doesn't deflect arrows.
With your blocking idea, I think it would be a tad bit OP in PvE

[quote=Badgerz]You have to keep in mind that people are stupid.
[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<
