Hey-Do you remember promises made to us by Notch, Jeb, and Dinnerbone? There were lots and lots, and most of them are still not in minecraft. All these promises are really annoying. I'm sick and tired of these new features. We want what we were promised:
-Red Dragons
We all remember that Notch promised a Red Dragon. Jeb then said that he "doesn't know how to make it." Well there are plenty of coders and modders out there. Plus Notch still works part-time on minecraft, and he made the enderdragon.
-Pigmen
As of now, only their undead forms mock us in the nether. But why are pigmen being pushed aside? They have so much potential! They could make a new village or something!
-Ambiance Animals
Jon Kagstrom said he would add more animals for decoration. This is a feature that the majority of people want, so this should be one of the main focuses of future updates.
-The Mod API
This is, in my opinion, probably the most important thing to focus on. This has been planned since ALPHA. Jeb said it would be in 1.3, then 1.4, then 1.5. However, he keeps putting it off and tries to tide us over with some crappy features put together in 5 minutes. If this mod API takes a year, fine. I just want the mod API.
-Terrain Overhaul
This is also very important. This was not promised, but this is probably one of the most wanted features by the people. The Terrain is not interesting. I wont rant about that because there's an entire thread for that. But this problem hasn't been remotely addressed by Mojang.
So my point, stop putting off these promises and listen to popular demand.
I think the problem with dragons is that there'd have to be a balance between fun and danger. They need a lot of power, but could turn into a computer controlled griefer if they get too strong. Perhaps they'd make a good miniboss. I'd definitely like to see them in game sooner or later.
They added bats. People complained. Not sure if they're going to add more ambient animals now.
Definitely agreed on the mod API, although I'm not sure how long it's gonna take. I can imagine it'd be rather complicated.
If you've been following Dinnerbone, he's been talking a fair bit about redesigning the terrain generation system (mostly by making it easier to control).
I'm annoyed that Mojang won't add some of this stuff too, but don't dump it directly on them. They are under a lot of pressure to add things that people want. But it is good to raise this topic up to be recognized.

The main problem, I suspect, is AI.
Enderdragon have the capability of clipping through enderstone and obsidian, while obliterating anything else it touches.
Notice something about Enderdragon's AI requirement? It is not required to avoid collision with object. Either it just flies through it (Obsidian, Endstone) or it destroys it (any other block).
Red Dragon, assuming you mean dragon in the overworld, cannot and should not destroy every block by simply fly through them, and collision detection (for something the size of, say, Enderdragon) and path finding through a dynamic world is difficult problem to solve AI-wise.
-Pigmen
As of now, only their undead forms mock us in the nether. But why are pigmen being pushed aside? They have so much potential! They could make a new village or something!
Not exactly sure how well they would fit. Perhaps a small overworld village that's centered on an inactive (and partially broken) portal? There would be a few netherack and soul sand here and there, but otherwise the village would be fairly normal looking.
The story could be that the zombie pigmen found an ancient portal and started to come through. One day, the portal was destroyed and stranded a few zombie pigmen here. Over time, the zombie pigmen managed to get de-zombified (by a stranger?) and they built a village around the original portal.
-Ambiance Animals

Agree, but perhaps not too much to prevent lagging the game out.
You don't decide what Mojang does, they do. They CHOOSE to implement player ideas, unlike most games out there, and they listen out and I hate how spoilt people like you go around and rant at them. They ARE adding ambience animals, if you'd look at the bats they implemented and the Mod API as well as a new lighting engine which was wanted is coming out in 1.5. If you actually BOTHERED to see their comments, you would hear about their comments in one of the most popular "improve terrain" threads, and how it is really hard for them to do it.
Red dragons were promised BEFORE the ender dragon, and then they said that 1 dragon was enough, and I as well as many others agree with this. Pigmen would be kind of useless to add now, what purpose would they have? I think the testificates are more imaginative and suit the game a little more.
I am not suggestion that mojang adds some random feature some person put on this forum. EVERYONE wants a mod API. EVERYONE wants improved terrain. NOONE wants a greifer horde that spawns wherever you go. See?
And about the dragons, Its just rude to make a promise and then say "Nope I dont wanna keep it." What kind of ****er does that?

Enderpearls need more uses! Go to http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1584591-ender-dust/ to fix that!
