OK, so I've been playing since 1.7.3 (shut up, I know it wasn't THAT long ago) but have NEVER found a mushroom island legit for myself. I know the critics are thinking, "Yeah, but they're SUPPOSED to be rare, kind of like pink sheep!" and you're right about one thing, and that's that they're supposed to be rare. But there's one thing you're missing. If you asked a person who said they are supposed to be rare like pink sheep a question like, "Have you ever FOUND a mushroom island?" they would most likely respond, "Well...not exactly, you see..." which is precisely my point. Mushroom islands, in my opinion, are WAY too rare. Please comment and vote in the pole so I can see if other people share my concern.
NOTE 1: The last choice on the second question on the pole is rigged because it was added late.
NOTE 2: I keep on getting stuff in the comments about client-modding discovery methods. Do NOT tell me the latest mods that will help you find mushroom islands, as it's cheating and should not go to this measure.

A THING TO MAKE VERY CLEAR: I think mushroom islands should be rare, just not too rare!
A REMINDER: There was a time in the polls where as many as 8% of people said they didn't know musroom islands existed, just so you know.
(Oh, and I know you might think the poll questions are biased, but really, all it's asking is yes, no, and "A what?" The extra text on the end is just a humor element, to keep the mood swagged)

Got any ideas on how to solve this problem? Post your ideas and I'll put them below!

1. The problem is that nobody is exploring oceans because they are BORING! We need an update that will get people looking in the water.

PS: Thank you to all who have commented and voted in the polls. It helps me greatly when trying to improve this post. Because of the people who have given me feedback, many editions have been done to the polls, hopefully as an improvement to better represent people's opinions on the issue. Also if you like the idea, please do +1 the post so I can get a good idea as to how many people support the idea, as if that isn't already represented in the polls but hey it makes me look good so please do.

Hmm, while I wouldn't mind mushroom islands being slightly more common, I wonder if their rarity is all that great or if its also a matter of people not exploring oceans like they do for land. When I've gone out to ocean exploring, I've found them 2 out of 3 major oceans I've explored in my worlds.

I agree. I only found one when I used a seed,they're way too rare.

Another thing I would like is if giant mushrooms could spawn randomly...

Is better like this, or everyone will have infinite food with Cogumoos.

Mushroom islands should remain rare, but they should be far more common in oceans, so when exploring an ocean with a boat you're more likely to find a mushroom island than just being extremely lucky.

More mushroom islands is the ocean content we need.

I like all the feedback! I understand the people saying they find a whole lot of mushroom islands and they don't need to be less rare, because if I found them often, I wouldn't be bringing this topic up. I find it harder to understand the people who haven't found any mushroom islands before and still think they aren't too rare...I don't know about you guys, but I feel like mushroom biomes are kind of a waste (because nobody every finds them!!) And I don't think people should have to really set out to look for a specified biome type. Keep commenting!

I think mushroom biomes should be fairly common. Support.

The problem is who is going to do anything about it...

Perhaps Oceans could have a larger chance of pre-generating a mushroom biome; I'd suggest 30% chance of a mushroom island being generated in the ocean as its own biome, 10% chance of a mushroom biome being independently generated, and a 5% chance of a mushroom biome being generated inland of a biome. That way, they are more prevalent.

I believe that mushy biomes are just a tad too rare. Maybe a 30 % chance per 8 chunks to spawn an island, and a 33% chance of the biome being a mushy one. That would up the commoness a little, but still makes them a good rare find.

I have explored a whole map(item) of ocean, no mushroom island.

I would think that it would be a problem if Mushroom Islands had a valuable resource that is needed highly for the game. Honestly, the island has only some mushrooms and weird cows. Nothing value.

I do agree however, that they should be a bit more common. Cool idea.

I have never seen one, except when I teleported to one once in a mod.

The thing is, people dont explore for hours to find one mushroom island. There needs to be more ocean content that makes you explore, and you find a mushroom island in the meantime.
