What if there was emerald armour, that was slightly stronger than iron armour and had the same aspects of diamond armour. The helmet would give you X-ray vision, the breastplate would completely block creeper explosions, fire damage, and arrows, the pants would make you run really fast, and the boots would make you jump super high. Good/bad idea?
No. Emeralds are supposed to be a currency, not material that makes incredibly overpowered equipment. This stuff would be way, WAY too easy to get for it's power (and armor is ALREADY overpowered).

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Emerald armor is a bit weird, and considering what you're trying to put out is highly overpowered. I'd say no.
However...if we had the ability to stud our armor with enchanted emeralds...that's a different story.
Also, I've actually been planning on posting something like this in the near future. Check out my banner, its on swords, but it's the same idea, adding gems that increase durability and enchant-ability!

This is rediculous. All those powers it gives you first of all, are rediculous (especially since 1. emeralds are very easy to get and 2. diamond armor doesn't have any properties like that, which is the best armor in the game).
Also, emeralds are meant to be used as currency and only as currency.
It's also a slightly unrealistic concept, (ok I agree that having diamond armour is also) because emerald isn't really a material, more of a precious stone.
Diamond is more realistic than emerald as emeralds aren't nearly as strong and are very easily scratched up and stuff.

I kind of like that idea... Maybe sticking some emeralds or diamonds in your armor to increase enchantability?

Curse PremiumPlus, here's an extensive thread that I've done on the idea of Emerald Armor and Tools: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1510821-emerald-toolsarmor-npcs-and-increased-trade-skill/
