I thought it'd be interesting variety if there were a new type of villager; not one that sits about a village, but one that you could find in the wild. It'd be the adventurer villager, and you could find him (he would be rare, of course) traversing the surface of minecraft.
The adventurer villager is somewhat antisocial, so he tends to stay away from villages. In order to make up the lack of protection this villager has a personal iron golem he's constructed to protect solely himself. Should you come across this adventurer, he'd be more than happy to trade the rarities he has come across such as mob drops, mob heads (including unobtainable ones), and will also, if you haven't fully explored it yet, fill in all areas of a map (might be troublesome, not sure if chunks need to be generated; would use the same form of GUI that priests use for enchanting).
This villager could possibly take on the robes of the unused green villager found in the data files of the minecraft.jar, just to give him a use, I see no reason why not.
Oh, and when I mentioned ancient scripts, I suggest that as a complement to the adventurer villager that random minecraft lore (Can be anything. Diaries, poetry, recipes, etc.) be found in structures such as a stronghold's library, abandoned mine shafts, dungeons, witch huts, and even a village's library/librarian. I realize this isn't new at all but it's got to be if adventurers are.
Criticism welcomed, and I also enjoy anything that may make my idea more interesting!
Points of discussion:
1) Should the adventurer be accompanied by wolves, a golem, or nothing?
2) With what should the adventurer be armed and garbed with? (Due to popular demand he will have something)
3) Should the villager walk rarely into other villages to trade?
4) Should the villager use the green robed texture found in the .jar?
along with his iron golem, maybe he could have an iron sword and/or bow&arrow for fighting mobs.
he also will wear a chain mail over his green robes, and will be willing to trade you them for other armor types (for those who prefer chain mail over diamond because they like to show off and/or know that chainmail is just reskined, rarer gold armor)
The adventurer villager could also trade rare ores, like diamonds, emeralds, etc, but in larger amounts for the same price, so people will look out for him and possibly try to find him.
I'm not for the scripts, but I am for the rest of this.
I'm also for chilltheshadow's idea of them having iron sword or bow and chainmail armor.
I think they should despawn and respawn somewhere completely different after so long so players don't try to contain and exploit them.
Maybe even find them in abandoned mineshafts or strongholds fighting off monsters.
Don't care about the lore stuff. Would be disappointed to be locked out of better trades because of something that has absolutely no value (as opposed to trading gravel and emeralds for flint, because at least you can make arrows).
For the rest of it, I like it. But I would say that instead of having a golem, it should have a bow or sword, and maybe a few wolves. That would make him a bit more challenging, without unleashing a golem into the wild. Or maybe it could spawn with either.

I thought about that but the blacksmith already trades ores :l

I can see where you guys are going with him needing more protection, but why would he need more than an iron golem? I mean, it's for one person. Wolves could be a bit more sense, as he's not settled and such, but everyone seems to favor him having a weapon. (I'm not against it I just am just wondering about yall's thoughts)

I would love it if you checked out my "about me" page on my profile and looked at my threads I'm always happy to see new posters.
He should wear an Iron Helmet, along with an Iron Chestplate. The rest is Leather, and he wields an Iron Sword. He should RARELY, and I mean RARELY walk into a Village. And then he'll get swarmed by villagers, which he'll trade, etc. I like this idea.
Great idea! But, meybe he should accept something he needs and he will trade you something you need in return. Technically its like a win-win situation. Otherwise, nice idea!

Are you suggesting that he buy items from you as well?
If so, maybe he'd buy food, weapons, and armor.
