This is my first post every on MinecraftForums, so I wanted to make it a suggestion.
BEFORE YOU READ THIS: This is not apart of Minecraft! I want to be apart of one of the updates though.
Anyway, the whole idea is that when you select Mob Beacon from the world type menu, it spawns you in an area with a shack called "Grandma's Shack", and a beacon up the hill. A villager is standing in front of you saying different things like "Please help us!", or "Just put this magnet in the beacon up ahead to attract the mobs", etc. You go into Grandma's Shack and get all of the items out of this chest, including armor, weapons, and food. You then go up to the beacon up the hill and place the magnet inside the beacon and select the "Mob Attack" option. Once you click done, all the mobs (HINT: More mobs will spawn as well.) in the world will start heading towards the beacon, trying to break it. Your job is to kill the mobs. If a mob kills you, then the world is deleted. If a mob gets to the beacon and breaks it fully, you will lose 2 hearts every 6 seconds. To get the beacon back, kill the mob holding the beacon, and put it back on the spot it was at before it was broken. Every 35 mobs you kill, you move up a level, spawning more mobs, and tougher mobs, such as a Blaze. Oh yeah, and I didn't mention it, but once you put the magnet in the beacon and click done, Grandma's shack is blown up. Anyway, back to what we were talking about, ever 5 levels you go up, a new beacon MAY spawn, and you will need to defend both beacons, and the next 5 levels you go up, a new beacon MAY spawn, and so on. And in a certain level, a wither will come and try to blow up the beacons, but you must try to kill the wither. If you decide that you want to go back to level 1, go in the beacon you first started with, and remove the magnet. All the mobs should automatically die after you remove the magnet, regular operation will continue after this until you put the magnet back in.
Now onto multiplayer functions. For multiplayer, you can set the default gamemode to Mob Beacon, and anyone who joins the server must fight to protect the beacon, as well as other players.
Well I hope you enjoy this suggestion and take it into consideration, and Notch, I hope your reading this.
Why does every game released have to have a Horde Mode now? Minecraft certainly doesn't need one.
By the way, Notch has nothing to with Minecraft now. He hasn't for a long time.
"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
I think you could "make" a horde mode, just with command blocks or spawners. Not necessarily the best idea for a game mode, I think its totally manufacturable.

Well, its not necessarily a game mode, its a world type (Default, superflat, large biomes, etc.)

I think it would give players challenges to see how long they could protect a beacon, and I didn't know that Notch has nothing to do with Minecraft these days.
Too complex to the players and the creators. There is no way that the villagers' AI can be changed just for one specific world type. If they change the AI for one type of world format, it changes for all world formats. So you would have villagers saying the same words in a normal village because the creators changed the AI of them. It's just impossible for them to change a mob's AI for just one specific world format. That's to the creators. Now, if 35 hostile mobs are going to a player to attack, then it's too hard. I can't even stand 5 hostile mobs. And your idea is just basically hardcore mode with creations here and there and new items. That's to the players. No support.
I would make a craft-able block that would create a mob siege until a mob destroys it which would result in all the mobs dying, and allow special rewards if you make it for a certain amount of time like the tower defense mod but that is as far as I would like to see it to go

This. Minecraft is a building game first, then a survival game, and when it stops being that, I'll stop playing.
