An interesting idea struck me earlier today; what if the Nether Star's properties were changed in such a way that it could be thrown when right-clicked and used as a weapon? I feel like this has been thought of before, but I figured I'd go ahead and post my feelings on the subject. If the Nether Star were to become a weapon, I think it would reward the player that much more for defeating the tough Wither boss because, let's face it, beating him in Survival is HARD. REALLY HARD. So, my fellow Miners and Crafters, what do you think? Opinions? Comments? Constructive Criticism? Dare I say... support?
Rather than defeat the wither for just one throw, maybe the nether star should be part of a the crafting recipie. Crafted with maybe iron or whatever, it makes 10 or so throwing stars.

"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."

Really hard? I spawned 3 of them at once and killed them in singleplayer.

I have discovered a truly remarkable proof of this, which this margin is too small to contain.

I'm not fond of the idea, nor am I too fond of the idea I'm about to suggest but here goes. Instead of a ninja star, why not a glaive? Not the polearm weapon, but one similar to the weapon in Krull. A very large shuriken that when thrown, can hit multiple enemies (maximum of say... 3) and travels in an arc similar to a boomerang.

I think the Nether Star is fine for just being used in a beacon. If it was going to be used in a weapon however it'd make more sense to use it in a magial weapon like a staff rather than a throwing star or something like that. Either way, I don't think the Nether Star should be used in a consumeable item (as in, something with a durability or limited amount of uses).
Maybe the ability to place the Nether Star would be cool, and it could act as a light source (it'd be a nice top for a Christmas tree, and Christmas iiiiis coming up ). It'd also just be nice to be able to place as a trophy item.
Why does everybody call them ninja stars? I'm pretty sure they're called shurikens.
Yeah, if you're a weeaboo
It's the proper name, I believe, but not everyone knows that. Simply calling them "ninja stars" just makes sure that everyone understands what he's talking about. (The strikethrough is a joke, by the way. Just putting that out there before someone gets legitimately offended.)
On-Topic: Eeeeeeeeh... Why? I don't think you've really outlined what, exactly, this "Nether Ninja Star" would precisely do. Just making it a throwing weapon just seems like it would be a bit of a let-down. In all honesty, even if you can properly balance this, I wouldn't support this; it just seems ridiculous. "Hey, I just killed the Wither! Let's throw its heart at a creeper!" It just seems like it would be a terrible use for the Nether Star... Not that the beacon's all that great, but... Eh.

Are you always so pessimistic?
Yes, yes I am. A pessimist is always either right, or pleasantly surprised.

Egads..this is World of Warcraft meets Battlefield 1942 in a dark alley with way too much to drink and no discarded mattress nearby.
Maybe if it was near unlimited use, you don't have to go find it after you throw it, and does 20 hearts, (which 1 hits creepers, zombies, and skeletons.) Then maybe. Otherwise the beacon is much more useful. It could be good if you didn't have enough ore blocks for another beacon.
