I've had a look at the Unimplemented Features page on the MCWiki, and it got me thinking .
I believe these features should be implemented, but for other reasons.
Crying Obsidian:
- Crafted with obsidian in any spot with lapis lazuli adjacent to it.
- When right clicked it sets your spawn at any time of day. (Useful for Adventure maps)
- Can be activated with a redstone current.
Spikey Pistons:
- A piston with retractable spikes.
- Crafted with a piston at the bottom and a spike over it.
- Spikes are obtained by breaking cacti.
- When unactivated it is identified by circles at the top of the piston.
- Same behaviour as normal pistons.
- Spikes deal half a heart per 0.5 seconds. (Same as cacti)
Lanterns:
- Crafted with a torch in the middle and iron ingots surrounding it.
- Can be placed on blocks, but every 2 days it dies out and has to be reignited with Flint and Steel.
- When right clicked, it emits light that follows you.
Lecterns:
- A stand that when right clicked with a book, puts the book on the lectern.
- Book doesn't follow you like the enchantment table.
- Crafted with a wooden slab at the bottom and the top and a stick in the middle.
- Adds character to studies.
Chairs/Tables:
- Chairs crafted with stick on the bottom left and right and wooden planks in an L shape, and tables you crafted with wooden planks across the top and sticks across the middle and bottom rows except for the middle slots.
- Tables can be right clicked with any food which puts the food on the table as if you dropped it on the table. The food doesn't despawn when you right clicked it. You can right click it again to get the item as a drop.
- When right clicked chairs can be sat on like a boat.
These are just my thoughts on things that have potential to help map/house makers make their project easier.

Pointless to the fact you can already use beds to set your spawn, as well as command blocks.

Notch stated last year these will NOT be implemented. No way, no how.
I also might point out that you're wishlisting, along with suggesting already suggested ideas.
