After seeing "Fixed the "unable to swim upwards" bug (prevented a 1.4.3 official release)" in the changelog of the newest snapshot I started thinking to myself. Maybe this wasn't exactly a bug? As in, why can we swim up a waterfall? Being able to swim up any kind of water makes the ladders almost useless, as water takes almost no resources and can flow down practically anywhere.
TL;DR: Make it so players can't swim up downwards flowing water.

Water is a great ladder replacement until you realize that it takes an eternity to go up any significant distance and carries far greater risks of drowning/fall damage.
Why remove the feature? Saying "it makes the game more realistic" isn't a very good argument, and it's not like water is the most gamebreaking thing to ever exist.
We have gravity and many different physics at work in Minecraft so I support this. Swimming up a waterfall is so counter-intuitive its ridiculous. Of course we can expect stiff opposition from those who exploit these inaccuracies.
Water is highly inefficient as a ladder, only time it is ever useful is if you need to place something on the bottom of a block that you can't use ladders to reach(eg: skyblock).
It is also a reliable way to exit caves in case you forgot ladders or used up all of your pickaxes. I think it should stay as is. I consider it a "yup thats minecraft" kinda thing and think the game would feel empty to a degree without it.

But it's okay for blocks to float mid-air?
