Although I am fairly sure this has been suggested before, I would like to re-open this with a TWIST!
It would work using bowls instead of bottles. These bowls would only be able to scoop up 'stew' foods, or foods created in cauldrons. These stews would be created by throwing raw meats or other non-cooked foods into a cauldron filled with at least 1/3rd water level. You can only boil 1 type of food at a time and can collect up to 3 bowls of stew from a filled cauldron.
Special effects can be applied when eating stews, only if the community likes that idea. If so, then I shall explain how this works.
Each stew can restore your hunger, as well as give you a small, temporary potion effect. For example, heating pork stew could give you a minor speed bonus, while eating beef stew could give you a minor strength bonus. Eating chicken stew could restore a small amount of health, while fish stew could offer limited fire protection. These stew items can be consumed while your hunger meter is full, but may not provide the potion effects.
These stews are an alternative to cooking food in a furnace. Stew food does not restore your hunger as well as cooked food, but does have a higher saturation value than their cooked counterparts.
For simplicity, you should still be able to aquire mushroom stew by crafting and milking a mooshroom, but that is my opinion.
Not the first time someone made a cauldron/stew type suggestion. I think the idea is alright, as it adds more flexible uses to, wooden bowls, cauldrons and some food, but this looks like one of those things that Jeb/Dinnerbone/whoever wouldn't bother with due to the combinations of possibilities coupled with the fact that we have plenty of foods to keep our hunger at bay.
Sadly though, I think the potion-effect-from-stews idea should be tossed out the window. Let's keep those things to actual potions/effect giving mobs/golden apples and not copy and paste that into simple stews.
I can support the stews. I do not support the potion effects.

Thanks for your contribution. I myself didn't think potion effects would sit well with everyone, so I decided to make it part of the poll. If hardly anybody likes that part of the suggestion, then it will simply not be included. However, I mainly post these suggestions for the developers to (hopefully) notice, so I try to add as many features to it as I can without bloating the suggestion into something redundant.
Yes, I want the cauldron to have a use. It might be worth noting that either Jeb or Notch said that they were interested in the idea of making soups and stews in cauldrons.

It's hard criticizing ideas when one is tired, so you'd better appreciate it when I criticize yours.
Maybe cauldrons could be put over a fire and if you put rotten flesh in you can get raw beef in 1 minute. They would have to change around the cauldron coding to let fire go under it. It makes sort of sense. Boiling water gets rid of germs and a zombie virus would be similar.

No, that's just way too complicated. It would take away from the simplicity of the game.
No, it's against the rules to post a suggestion that has been plastered on these forums day in and day out, such a thirst bars or Herobrine crap.
Not entirely true; when I sent a report to an admin about someone who had nearly the exact same idea as me, the thread was locked. (Coincidentally, it was also about stews. The system was similar to this, but it didn't have potion effects and you could add multiple ingredients.)
I'd like to see these stews provide a very short regeneration period if you eat it at full hunger, perhaps healing half a heart or so.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

If it's any consolation, I support a lot of things in the cauldron thread you made.
