People have been talking about bat drops for a since the official release. I, and a few others have suggested that bats should drop leather....
I think this is a very good idea and should be added. Leather is a rare item sometimes. I will use the example of a survival island world. Yes I know you can make a boat and go search for land... but is that fun? NO. Expecially if you are playing a large biome world.
With bats rarely dropping leather, at least you can make a book... enchantment table. And I am talking about a rare drop... like wither skeleton heads. It would give the bat a reason to be killed other than making annoying noises.
To those who say bats in real life would't drop leather... What do you think their wings are made of? Skin. AKA leather. And this is minecraft. Have you seen the size of those minecraft bats? I think they should drop some leather rarely!
Support for a bat that will be more than just annoying!
As long as the batskin can be used as leather! I am sick of having to leave my survival island to sail for hours looking for land and a cow. On large biomes, this just sucks. At least if bats dropped I might get a piece to make a book.
I agree with the bat skin suggestion, and having it work as leather also. Just like coal and charcoal. For sure have it a different texture though. Maybe something new that you can ONLY craft with bat skin? I dunno what, but I agree with Luis that there should be some new stuff like that.
Bat fang would be more appropriate and using it has an ingredient for a potion.
That defeats the purpose. Leather is already rare enough to make leather armor impractical.
IMO, they should drop a "tattered bat skin" as a common drop (though only a 50% chance of dropping one) and have a plain "bat skin" as a normal drop. Tattered bat skins are useless on their own, but can be crafted in to the regular bat skin with 9 of them. Bat skin could replace leather in crafting recipes (and be used alongside leather) and could have uses exclusive to bat skins (gliders?).

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

Oooh, that sounds pretty cool. It also doesn't sound too far off of "minecrafty" either. Having gliders slowly deteriorate from use would be a good way to keep it balanced also.
