I love the Anvil but the cost to make one is well very expensive almost half a stack of iron to make one which is a waste in my view. So I thought about it and instead of making a new one every time one breaks I thought why not just leave the stand of the anvil behind and replace the head. So what I'm saying is craft 3 Iron blocks = 27 ingots and then put the stand of the anvil in the crafting grid and the 3 blocks on top.

It's three blocks and four ingots currently. Are you suggesting that when it breaks, it leave behind the bottom portion and you simply replace the three blocks? Why not just build a new one with those three blocks you'd use for the 'repair' and four more ingots. I mean, there's literally a four ingot difference...
