As it is, the Nether dosn't have much reason to go there. There are no ores, one plant, one structure. An ore would be good, and there comes the suggestion:
Searium!
The hunt for light! Searium spawns in the Nether, about as rare as lapis lazuli, at any height and in veins of about 3-5 blocks.
Lots and Lots! Searium ore drops itself, which can be smelted for 2 Searium Shards. 9 of those shards can be crafted into a Searium block.
Fuel! Strangly enough, Searium can also be used as fuel, smelting 4 items.
Pretty light! Searium ore gives off a light level of 5, and the block gives off light level 10.
Burning Sensation! Any mobs touching Searium ore combusts after 10 seconds, allowing you to use it in traps. The block causes mobs (or players) touching it to set on fire after 5 seconds. The items are not burned so it can be used in traps... If you can get the loot without burning yourself.
Torches! Searium can be crafted into Searium torches by placing a Searium shard in the crafting table with a blaze rod underneath. The resulting torch gives off light 15, higher than a normal torch.
Furnace Enchanting! No table required! Placing a Searium block under a furnace causes any fuel in the furnace to smelt an extra half item, adding that extra few items to the smelted party.

No thanks, it's a nice idea but it doesn't work too well. It has too many uses for one ore, even if it is as rare as lapis and found only in the nether. Not to mention I don't think we need any new sources of light.
Still, it's a good try.
My only arguments to that are probably
Iron. It has lots of uses...
More uses - More useful
Meh, I guess it's a decent attempt at a suggestion.

Searium!
The hunt for light! Searium spawns in the Nether, about as rare as lapis lazuli, at any height and in veins of about 3-5 blocks. Decent...
Lots and Lots! Searium ore drops itself, which can be smelted for 2 Searium Shards. 9 of those shards can be crafted into a Searium block. Decent yet again...
Fuel! Strangly enough, Searium can also be used as fuel, smelting 4 items. I'm assuming shards, so still decent...
Pretty light! Searium ore gives off a light level of 5, and the block gives off light level 10. Still decent... stop annoying me, I want a flaw!
Burning Sensation! Any mobs touching Searium ore combusts after 10 seconds, allowing you to use it in traps. The block causes mobs (or players) touching it to set on fire after 5 seconds. The items are not burned so it can be used in traps... If you can get the loot without burning yourself. Hrm... a bit too op...I got an idea! OK, the shards/blocks make armor, I will post the recipes below!Note: Netherrackis the shards/blocks, your choice, btw. Anyways, they have to stats of diamond armor, but durability of diamond+iron, and with the boots it prevents combustion and catching on fire when walking on the block!
Torches! Searium can be crafted into Searium torches by placing a Searium shard in the crafting table with a blaze rod underneath. The resulting torch gives off light 15, higher than a normal torch. Stop making decent suggestions!
Furnace Enchanting! No table required! Placing a Searium block under a furnace causes any fuel in the furnace to smelt an extra half item, adding that extra few items to the smelted party. Again, DECENT SUGGESTIONS, STOP THEM!

I'm not sure about the armor as the reason I didn't put tools in was because I wanted Searium to have no tools/armor because people would go 'Damn! No more tools or armor!'. It could work if it had something special.
Shards are the stuff used for smelting, blocks are not used in crafting, just as furnace upgrades, storage and light.
The flaw part... I noticed that spiders are pretty hard to catch in a pit as they climb out. It isn't very effective against players either and is obviously useless against nether mobs. Would it do that half the drops are burned?

Agreed, how about just boots so it helps a bit, because I do see what you are saying, we need more ores like emeralds. What if the blocks make a new kind of entity called "blue fire" which will do damage to all mobs. And as for the spiders, how about just generally touching the blocks sets you ablaze with the blue fire? Plus by tools and armor do you mean pickaxe, swords, etc? Or unique items like this trusty old flaming boomarang? (Sorry the color was drained from the poor blaze rods!)

Searium!
The hunt for light! Searium spawns in the Nether, about as rare as lapis lazuli, at any height and in veins of about 3-5 blocks. Sure.
Lots and Lots! Searium ore drops itself, which can be smelted for 2 Searium Shards. 9 of those shards can be crafted into a Searium block. Yes.
Fuel! Strangly enough, Searium can also be used as fuel, smelting 4 items. Maybe, but we have plenty of fuel sources already.
Pretty light! Searium ore gives off a light level of 5, and the block gives off light level 10. Yes, this seems interesting.
Burning Sensation! Any mobs touching Searium ore combusts after 10 seconds, allowing you to use it in traps. The block causes mobs (or players) touching it to set on fire after 5 seconds. The items are not burned so it can be used in traps... If you can get the loot without burning yourself. Sounds cool; yes.
Torches! Searium can be crafted into Searium torches by placing a Searium shard in the crafting table with a blaze rod underneath. The resulting torch gives off light 15, higher than a normal torch. No. Seems pointless.
Furnace Enchanting! No table required! Placing a Searium block under a furnace causes any fuel in the furnace to smelt an extra half item, adding that extra few items to the smelted party. Yes.

Anyhow, it's a great suggestion for an ore, unlike lots of the other ones these days. Also, finally a nether ore!
