Minecraft needs utility mobs that aren't golems, and I have ideas for 5 of them (well, they're all variations of the same thing, but still). They are…drumroll please…okay, stop the drumroll…seriously, it's annoying…stop the freaking drumroll!!…SPIRITS!!!!! Before you think this is another stupid necromancy thing, let me explain. These spirits aren't cheesy ghosts, and they don't protect you (they're mostly helpful though). They're more like an elemental spirit thing, and can be summoned by placing some blocks in a certain order, because like golems, they are a utility mob. It's kinda like the Wither. I'll explain later what blocks you put where to make each kind of spirit come. First of all, there are 5 kinds of spirits. I haven't decided what they will look like yet, maybe like smaller Withers with one head, so you readers will have to help me with that. They are: Water spirit, fire spirit, storm spirit, ice spirit, and nature spirit. I'd like if they all looked the same but with some color and detail variations based on what kind of spirit they are. Anyway, here's how to summon them and what they do:
Water spirit: Make a 3x3 pool of water one block deep. Put a lapis lazuli block in the middle, and another lapis block on top of that (finally a use for lapis!). Then pour water on top of your little lapis tower and it will disappear along with the lapis and other water, and a water spirit will come out. He will fly (yes, they fly) to the nearest water source big enough for squid to spawn, so make sure you live near a big lake or the ocean. He will then swim around, killing squid occasionally, and every morning when the sun rises he will drop 3-5 fish and/or ink sacs on the shore. Also, if a monster steps into the water within a 64-block range around him, he will grab the monster, drag it down, and drown it. He'll do the same to any player other than his creator who attacks him. Water spirits have 20 hearts and drop 9-15 lapis lazuli when killed.
Fire spirit: Make a 3x3 floor of netherrack on the ground, with lava in the center. Then put a piece of netherrack on each corner of your floor and light it on fire. Finally, use a fire charge on the lava and the whole thing will disappear and a fire spirit will appear. Fire spirits are cheap to make, but they are the most dangerous and unreliable spirits. They're the reason why servers will have the option to turn spirits off. Fire spirits should be built far from your house or in another dimension. They light stuff on fire when they touch it, but they usually don't because they fly around. Occasionally they shoot fire charges at the ground, buildings, or trees, and at mobs, besides wolves (that's just mean) and mooshrooms (rare). They will also never go in a village, that would make too many players mad, and if summoned inside a village they will leave and then resume normal behavior. They have 25 hearts and they will shoot fire charges at any player who hurts them. Fire spirits drop 1-3 fire charges when killed, which could tempt players to grind on them for free charges, but trying to grind something that can fly and start fires is a crappy idea, unless you want your world burned down. Also, they get hurt by water, but it evaporates when touching them, and they are immune to all fire damage.
Storm spirit: Make a 3x3 pool like with the water spirit, but put a gold block in the center and iron blocks in the corners, then wait for a storm. Lightning will always strike a finished storm spirit making thing, and once it does, the stuff disappears and the spirit comes. This is the only spirit that's good to have in combat (fire spirits kill monsters too, but they're so destructive they may kill you by accident). It shoots lightning bolts at the monsters, besides creepers. It only does that at night or during rain or thunderstorms. During the non-rainy day, since it would look stupid to have a black stormy spirit thing flying around in the blue sky, it turns white and cloudy. Very rarely, a spirit will start a storm. If it's doing that in the day, it will turn into its nighttime-rainy day form. Then it will start emitting black smoke particles and occasionally lightning. After that, the storm will start. Storm spirits have 40 hearts of health and drop craploads of xp when killed, but no items.
Ice spirit: 3x3 floor of ice under a 3x3 floor of snow blocks, with another block of snow on top of that in the center. Since ice is unobtainable in Survival Mode, build it on top of a frozen lake. Ice spirits are a bit like snow golems. They will throw snowballs at monsters, but still don't do damage. However, they throw really fast, so they can keep a few monsters occupied or knock them off a cliff or something. Still not good for combat, but it can help a little. Also, since they can fly, they won't die like snow golems. It's like having your own pet fly-modding snowball chucking server troll. They also can go through ice, and they'll freeze water when they touch it. They have 25 hearts and drop a few stacks of snowballs when killed.
Nature spirit: Put down a rose with different kinds of saplings on all four sides of it, so you used all four saplings. You just made a + shape out of plants! Now fill in the corners with dandelions so the + becomes a square. Then, bonemeal the plant square, it will disappear, and the nature spirit will come out. Nature spirits will fly around planting (biome-specific) trees and bonemealing random stuff, making them really useful for farming, but keep your farm hoed or you might get a tree where you don't want it. This makes nature spirits the ultimate annoying troll hippie ecologists, so servers might want to disable them. Nature spirits have 20 hearts and are extra damaged by fire, and they drop 3-10 random seeds, saplings, and flowers when killed.
That's really all I have to say about spirits, you guys can post now. If you're posting something about what a spirit could look like, say SPIRIT in front of whatever you want to say. Also, if you want to make a mod for this, you can, but wait until we decide on what they look like first. If you really hate this idea, I understand how thirsty hating makes you, so drink some orange juice . Better yet, take a bath in orange juice! I'll hold your diamonds for you.

When will Minecraft stop updating? When pigs fly over the frozen plains of hell, twice in a blue moon, while Taylor Swift sings a song called, "Maybe I'm the Problem".
Crap I still don't know what they should look like. Does anyone have any ideas?

Since you asked what they should look like, here's some ideas:
Water Spirit: Um, a cross between the player and a manta ray?
Fire Spirit: A red human model with orange and yellow bat wings on its back, on fire.
Storm Spirit: The lower half could look like a cone of glass blocks, only tiny, while the upper half looks like an unsheered sheep-man, with black wool for the rainy day form and white wool for the sunny day form.
Ice Spirit: Translucent blue human shape with some parts opaque white
Nature Spirit: Green humanshape with green hair and toga made of leaves, pointed ears and dragonfly wings.
